You can also take one of the many pleasure cruises that will take you out to sea for one hour which is a memorable experience. There are many events going on all year round including Whitby’s own Regatta, Folk Week, music weekends and Goth weekends which offer something to please everyone. If you would like to travel further afield you can visit many pretty coastal resorts dotted along the coast from Whitby including Robin Hood’s Bay, Runswick Bay, Sandsend and Staithes which are all worth a day out. The seaside town of Scarborough is only 20 miles away and the stunning historic city of York is only one hour away.

You are not far from Castle Howard, Sledmere House, Rievaulx Abbey and many more. The North Yorkshire Steam Railway runs regular services over the moors through ’Heartbeat Country’ and stopping in ‘Aidensfield’ (Goathland) and other villages en route to Whitby. In less than an hour you can be in the medieval city of York with its stunning minster that attracts visitors from all over the world. There is an open top tourist bus or take a leisurely cruise along the river.

Thirsk, 3 miles, is a quaint market town famous for its connections with James Herriot, the well-known vet and author of ‘All Creatures Great and Small’, its racecourse and 15th century church. Days out can be enjoyed at Rievaulx Abbey near the wonderful town of Helmsley, as well as Castle Howard and Fountains Abbey.
