There are quaint market towns of Malton, Pickering and Helmsley which offer excellent boutique shopping, food markets, pubs and restaurants. The 5000-acre great Dalby Forest is situated just a 15 minutes’ drive away, and the Cleveland Way and the Wolds Way walks are within easy reach. The coastal resorts of Scarborough, Filey and Flamborough Head are just a short drive, along with the RSPB bird sanctuary at Bempton Cliffs where you can see puffins, gannets and guillemots in their natural habitat.
The Wykeham Lakes are close by, excellent for coarse and trout fishing with some of the largest fishing lakes in Yorkshire. The walks around the lakes are full of nature and flora with deer, swans and badgers often seen. Visit Eden Camp, a modern history themed museum, abbey ruins at Byland and Rievaulx, and stately homes at Castle Howard, Sledmere House and Sewerby Hall.
The vibrant city of York is less than an hour away and appeals to all ages with its historic buildings, Jorvik Viking Centre, the Railway Museum, theatres and art galleries along with river boat trips, street entertainers and an abundance of restaurants and real ale inns.
