    2
    Ref: FCS

"Devon’s best kept secret... Just inland from some of Devon’s loveliest and most natural beaches lies the village of Tuckenhay set along Bow Creek on the River Dart...."

In a setting of stunning natural beauty, Tuckenhay Mill is the centrepiece of a cluster of country homes and cottages with superb leisure facilities including two indoor and one outdoor pools, making it ideal for a family holiday for all ages.
The Mill which once produced some of the finest paper in the land, nestles in the green and shady Bow Creek, a languid inlet of the River Dart where private yachts have replaced the old tall-masted ships and barges. Around the mill are all the buildings which once went to make up a small bustling village port. These listed buildings have been sympathetically restored and converted to a delightful range of holiday properties to suit larger family parties. Awards have been won for the conversion of buildings and the conservation of the area. With so much to do, many holidaymakers return year after year.

    South Devon awaits you
Tuckenhay is only a 20-minute drive from the superb award-winning beach at Blackpool Sands and about 30 minutes from a surfing beach at Bantham, as well as some of the best natural beaches to be found anywhere in the UK.
There is also extensive access to the coastal footpath for walking and the wilderness that is Dartmoor for walking, climbing and riding.
This is a mecca for ramblers, bird-watchers, swimmers, surfers, horse riders, golfers and those interested in fishing, boating, sailing and windsurfing.
In addition, there are many historic NT houses to visit including Agatha Christies’s Greenway as well as a local vineyard (with award-winning wines) at Sharpham.
Tuckenhay is only 5 miles inland from Dartmouth and 3 from the market town of Totnes. Village shop 3½ miles. Riverside inn and restaurant within walking distance.

    A superb choice of cottages
Each of the cottages has been individually styled to offer comfortable and spacious accommodation. Great care has been taken to retain the feel of the original buildings and extensive use has been made of traditional materials. Most have garden, terrace or patio. Individual cottage details are shown on the following pages.
Many cottages have more than one bathroom and some have an en-suite bathroom to every bedroom. Kitchens are comprehensively equipped: most have dishwashers and all have microwave cookers.
Couples and honeymooners will feel snug and comfortable in the small cottages: Mill Leat, Mill Stream and Mill Spring. Families can spread out in Papermaker’s or Turbine Cottages, while Mill Lodge, Edgecombe Barn and Tuckenhay Mill House will sleep larger parties in comfort. Of course, combinations of cottages can accommodate bigger gatherings of family or friends.

This spacious two-storey property is very similar in layout to 2 Salle Cottage. Spacious sitting-room reached via glazed doors from split-level hall with polished wooden floor. French doors and small flight of steps to paved terrace with valley views. Kitchen/dining room with superb traditional country-style kitchen with farmhouse table and chairs. Separate toilet. The sub-tropical gardens showcase the botanical advantages of the Cornish climate. The walled garden features a clipped serpentine box hedge enclosing the ‘hot border’ and a beautifully scented lavender surround to the pond. The woodlands contrast the beautifully manicured lawns and sculpted hedges. Originally created in the 1920s, the Woodland Walk is a circular walk that skirts the perimeter of the estate and gives breathtaking sea views. There is shared use of an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, which are both heated. There is also a separate shallow children’s pool next to both the outdoor and indoor pools. The indoor pool is designed in a conservatory style and the outdoor pool enables swimmers to enjoy unrivalled panoramic views over St Ives Bay and Gwithian Towans. Guests can also enjoy use of a fitness suite (at a small charge), with lots of cardio equipment and weights, equipped with fully qualified members of staff. Tregenna Castle also caters for weddings.

From the fine golden sandy beaches and the turquoise, clear Atlantic Ocean, St. Ives consists of lots of quaint fishermen cottages, shops, galleries, bars and restaurants offering fresh catches of the day. St. Ives is easy to reach by road and by train. The railway line is wonderful, running adjacent to the beautiful coastline. The mild sub-tropical climate, warmed year round by the Gulf Stream allows for tropical gardens, which can be seen at Tregenna Castle. Perhaps most famous for its wonderful light which continues to attract artists from across the world, St. Ives is also home to The Tate. The gallery’s building stands high above the magnificent surfing beach of Porthmeor and features exhibitions which represent some of the greatest contemporary art of the time. Allied to Tate St Ives is the Barbara Hepworth Museum, a lasting memorial to the great sculptress who lived and worked in St. Ives at her Trewyn Studio. Her workshop has been carefully preserved and made accessible; the gardens and house contain many examples of her work and some of her finest pieces.

Cornwall is an amazing place to visit all year round and you will find Tregenna Castle the perfect base to explore the county’s many wonderful attractions. There are a number of destinations within a reasonable drive time that are a great day out for all ages whatever the weather. Theatre lovers are well served by the amazing Minack Theatre. Hewn out of a cliff, this stage sees the most fantastic natural sky and seascapes during its varied programme of productions. Garden lovers are spoilt for choice in Cornwall due to its sub-tropical climate. The Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan and Trebah Gardens are just a few of the countys beautiful examples. For the thrill seekers and those interested in World War II and the Victorian era, Flambards Park, museum and gardens is just a 25-minute drive and has a wide range of children and adult rides, as well as award-winning exhibitions. The properties make a cosy getaway for two or an extended family (total combined 22 guests), and the pets. The farm itself dates back to William the Conqueror and was mentioned in the Domesday Book survey of 1086. Explore the surrounding countryside either on foot in the neighbouring Blackdown Hills, or by car with the historic market town of Honiton and the majestic Jurassic Coast just a short drive away. There is also shared use of a heated indoor swimming pool to keep the kids entertained without the need for travelling, and ample space in which to kick a ball around or take the dogs for a well deserved walk. Younger children can entertain themselves in the enclosed play area with swings and sandpit whilst the young adults of the group can sink into a book or get online with wi-fi access in each of the properties.
Swallow Cottage (ref 31207), Apple Cottage (ref 31206), Cider Cottage (ref 31208) and Haybarn Cottage (ref 31209) used to be an integral part of the working farm and date back to the Domesday Book although a lot has changed since then. All the cottages have been carefully restored with flagstone floors, oak beams and furnished with beautiful beds and ample furniture. Relax in front of the TV, get online or cook up a feast in the well-equipped kitchen. Swallow Cottage, Cider Cottage and Haybarn Cottage are all wheelchair-friendly. There’s also plenty of communal space around the farm including a marvellous, shared conservatory which overlooks a large, well-stocked fish pond for duck and moorhen watching. The conservatory can seat up to twenty two people for dinner and is a great sun trap. In the evening guests can light the woodburner for a little extra comfort and simply relax with a good book.
