The Park is a secret huddle of distinctively chic holiday properties, hidden in a tranquil valley garden just yards from a stunning beach on the north Cornwall coast. No two holiday homes are the same at this holiday park, with stylish lodges and cosy cottages which are all nestled in 27 acres of tranquil grounds. Some of these have private terraces with hot tubs, many have enclosed garden spaces. Most of the homes are dog-friendly, as is the beach, no matter what time of year you come and stay. You can swim in one of our two swimming pools, let off steam in the spa, or lounge in the café. There’s also a children’s play area, table tennis and a DVD library. The Park grounds offer sun traps, hidden pathways and fruit and herb gardens which guests are invited to sample. Next to the café is the heated indoor pool, sauna and steam room. Outside, you’ll find another heated pool in a south-facing garden setting with views across the valley, complete with a bar serving food and drinks throughout the summer.

If you’re looking for adventure, take a stroll along north Cornwall’s breath-taking coastal paths, beaches and cliffs. For something more extreme, learn to surf at a surf school on Mawgan Porth Beach, or maybe try kite surfing at Watergate Bay, just two miles down the coast. If your food supplies are running low, pick up some holiday essentials at the convenience store in Mawgan Porth Village, or dine at Jamie Oliver’s ’Fifteen’ restaurant at Watergate Bay, or Rick Stein’s Seafood Café at Padstow.

Cornwall has plenty of family attractions, and is also well-known for arts, culture, history, heritage, gardens, food, drink, film, TV and literature. Beaches in the local area, Watergate Bay, and the surf beaches of Newquay, lie within five miles along the coast road southwards, and the seven bays and beaches of St Merryn and Padstow are 10 miles to the north. Further afield, the beaches of Marazion, St Ives, Sennen, Kynance Cove, Falmouth, Perranporth and Porthcurno are among the top ten in the county (according to the Cornwall Guide). Even if the weather is poor, do what the locals do - wrap up warm, take a brisk walk in the wind, watch the waves crash on the rocks and let the Cornish sea air blow the cobwebs away!

Other attractions including the educational Eden Project and Healey’s Cornish Cyder Farm, are not far away. Cornwall is steeped in myths, legends and folklore, from ‘piskies’ and ’faeries’ to kings and castles. Cornwall’s 50-plus gardens all enjoy the warmth of the Gulf Stream, which means that many are home to rare tropical plants, flowers and trees. There are gardens of different scales in Cornwall, from the small and unusual to the large and more famous. Beach 300 yards. Shop and pub 250 yards, restaurant on-site.

Four steps to entrance: All on ground floor: Living/dining room with French doors/kitchen. 2 bedrooms: 1 double, 1 twin (2ft 6in). Shower room with toilet.

"Views over bays and cliffs from a castle stronghold – a unique holiday opportunity . . ."

Watermouth Castle offers a rare combination of opportunities – for not only do visitors have the chance to live in a castle, but they also enjoy unlimited, free entry to one of the West Country’s premier tourist attractions during their stay (please note that the park, castle and facilities are closed in winter as from November 2016). Within the splendid castle itself, there are six superb apartments, an indoor heated swimming pool, a museum, a choice of theme attractions, and some fascinating water displays. Outside, the castle’s 50-acre estate features wonderful landscaped gardens, with plenty of space for strolling and relaxing, and glorious woodland walks. There are ducks and waterfowl to admire on the lake outside the walls, and beautiful views from the castle over Watermouth Bay and its harbour, where there are slipway facilities for visitors’ boats, as well as moorings for larger craft (by arrangement with the harbourmaster).
The castle is a true example of a Victorian folly, completed in the mid 19th-century by the Bassett family. Now extensively restored by the current owner, its self-contained holiday apartments are reached through an archway in the south court, where the indoor heated swimming pool is available exclusively to apartment residents. All of the properties have been decorated and furnished to a comfortable standard throughout, in keeping with the style and ambience of the Castle, and all feature four-poster, half tester or brass beds.
A separate part of the castle, open to the public, contains the fascinating museum collections, including a Victorian kitchen, animated displays, mechanical musical instruments, a large model railway and a unique arcade of pier slot machines, all in working order. In the underground theatre is the Water Spectacular, reputedly one of the best fountain shows in the world, a thrilling mix of lights, music and water. Outside in the grounds are further family entertainments, including traditional rides and slides, fascinating water features, children’s play areas, a ‘Gnomeland’, themed crazy-golf, and much, much more all of which earned Watermouth Castle a place in the finals of the South West Tourism ‘Large Visitor Attraction Of The Year’ Award in 2005.
Watermouth Castle enjoys an incomparable setting on rising ground, commanding views over the bays and cliffs of the magnificent coastline stretching away to the east. Take a woodland walk through the estate to the picturesque, award-winning village of Berrynarbor, or visit the coastal village of Combe Martin (less than 3 miles to the east) – famous not only for its sandy coves, inlets and majestic headlands but also as ‘the gateway to the Exmoor National Park’. Combe Martin offers a choice of shops and cafes, and one of Devon’s oldest inns! Ilfracombe is only a five minute drive away to the west, with a range of seaside attractions, good shops and a golf course, and visitors can enjoy miles of golden sand at nearby Woolacombe and Croyde Bay. Superb cliff-top scenery and beautiful wooded valleys make this one of North Devon’s most scenic areas – as well as a paradise for walkers. Shops 2 miles.

A famously mild climate, gorgeous beaches, picturesque villages and top attractions are what visitors can look forward to when they stay at one of these holiday properties in South Cornwall. Ranging from the wide sweep of Falmouth Bay to tiny hidden coves reached by winding tracks, the beaches of South Cornwall are as perfect for lazy summer days as for invigorating winter walking. And there is also a great range of water sports on offer, many close by at Looe Beach.
Venture inland and you will find an array of enticing attractions within easy reach. The Eden Project, where giant transparent domes recreate different climate conditions, and the Lost Gardens of Heligan promise fascinating days out.
Enjoy sea angling trips and boat rides from charming fishing villages such as St Mawes, Mevagissey, Looe and Polperro, and Fowey is a firm favourite with the sailing community. The cathedral city of Truro and historic Penzance are both well worth a visit. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile. Accommodation allocated on arrival.
