Holiday cottages in England need little introduction. After all, a cottage break is really the quintessential English holiday, and we think there are few better ways to explore the wonderful history and heritage the country has to offer. A popular walk with locals and visitors is the ‘Hall Walk’ which hugs the shoreline and climbs through the trees across the estuary. It has many beautiful vantage points to enjoy the views out to sea and across to the town. The historic seafaring town of Fowey is famous for the home of the writer Daphne Du Maurier and the location of the annual Fowey Royal Regatta in August and the Fowey Festival of Arts and Literature in May. It is a mecca for water sports enthusiasts from sailing and sea fishing to kayaking up the river - Fowey has it all! Coastal walks and boat trips along the river and out to sea, where you may spot dolphins and seals, can be taken from the quay, as can a ferry across the bay to Mevagissey. The pretty little beach at the quaintly named Readymoney Cove is a short stroll away and the perfect spot in which to explore the rock pools, go crabbing or simply lie on the beach! There are many National Trust gardens and houses in the area, as well as the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan. Cycling, surfing and golf are all available locally. Beach 1 mile. Fly-fishing and coarse fishing is available all year round at Narborough trout and coarse lakes ½-mile away. Lake at house available for fun fishing.
    The local area offers wonderful woodland/river walks, and the superb gardens and park at Sandringham can be visited when the Royal Family is away. Good places to visit include Castle Rising and Castle Acre. The coast is only 15 miles and is a haven for bird-watchers, with the nearest RSPB reserve at Snettisham, which also has a beautiful church and Park Farm. The long sweep of sandy beach runs from here to Hunstanton and beyond, from where the Norfolk coast path begins. Medieval Kings Lynn, with its handsome waterfront, shops, inns and restaurants is just 8 miles. Swaffham market town, 6 miles. Shop ¾ mile.

    Ashwood Wing is a beautiful family home which adjoins the owners home and also Ashwood Manor (ref CLU) which can accommodate a further ten guests, making it an ideal location from which to host family gatherings or a group of friends holidaying together.
    Elegantly furnished the wing offers a spacious sitting room with cosy wood-burning stove, a lovely kitchen/dining room giving the opportunity for everyone to enjoy a meal together. There are two bedrooms, both with sloping ceilings, and the double with lovely en-suite bathroom. The whole party will love splashing around in the shared indoor heated swimming pool, relaxing in the hot tub and sauna, or a game of table tennis, pool or darts. There’s even an adventure playground to keep the children out of mischief. You will have your own enclosed garden but also access to the extensive grounds with gardens and a lake (fenced) for ‘fun’ fishing. For the more serious angler, fly-fishing and coarse fishing is available half a mile away at Narborough trout and coarse lakes.
    If you can tear yourself away from all that is on offer here, there are picturesque woodland or river walks in the local area, or the Sandringham Estate is just 10 miles away, open to the public when the Royal Family aren’t in residence. The coast can be reached in 15 miles. Long sandy beaches sweep to Hunstanton and beyond to the Norfolk coastal path. The medieval town of Kings Lynn, 8 miles, offers a range of shops, inns, restaurants and a handsome waterfront. The market town of Swaffham is 6 miles. Shop ¾ mile. This is an ideal location at any time of the year with something for everyone.

    Lower Elsford Farm has an abundance of wildlife and jaw dropping views across Dartmoor National Park and the famous Lustleigh Cleave. These properties are in an ideal location for a holiday for family or friends, and can be booked together to accommodate larger parties. Each property has its own enclosed private seating area with a barbecue. Located in an excellent position, allowing you to explore not only the 32 acre grounds, but all parts of Devon, and in particular, the 368 square miles of Dartmoor National Park, renowned for its quaint villages, meandering streams, dramatic scenery, wild ponies and varied wildlife. The grounds include an ancient stone row, 5 acres of rough moorland, two ponds and a tumbling stream.
    Lower Elsford is bordered to the west by Woodland Trust and Dartmoor National Park Woods. Indigenous oak trees are covered with lichen, demonstrating the purity of the air; whilst water is provided by the farm’s own natural Dartmoor spring. Views from the fields are magnificent, stretching over the moor to Hound Tor and Haytor Rocks, and on a clear day as far as the coast at Berry Head, with glimpses of the sea. Wildlife abounds, including a badger set, deer, foxes, buzzards, and in season the bluebells and snowdrops flourish. Time does not seem to move quite so fast down here. Peace and tranquillity is the speciality, whilst Lower Elsford Farm is still within easy travelling distance of many local attractions. Guests are free to help themselves to any eggs they find, courtesy of the farm’s resident chickens. Dartmoor served as the inspiration for Conan Doyle’s classic novels Sherlock Holmes and The Hound of the Baskervilles, and as the backdrop for the film, War Horse. Dartmoor has the largest number of archaeological remains in Europe. So if it is stone circles, menhirs, stone crosses and ancient villages that get you excited, look no further. Located within Dartmoor National Park, the farm is listed in the Domesday Book. There has been a settlement here for at least 600 years. Shop 5 miles, pub and restaurant 2½ miles.

Visitors can enjoy browsing around the array of shops, restaurants and pubs and sampling the local seafood specialities. The town hosts an annual regatta, and sailing enthusiasts can take advantage of boat hire and a sailing school. In May each year, the renowned Daphne du Maurier Festival of Arts and Literature is held in Fowey and St Austell Bay, celebrating the life and works of the author and the association of her work with Cornwall and Fowey. The delightful fishing port of Polperro is well worth a visit, with its whitewashed cottages lining narrow alleys and an assortment of shops selling local crafts and freshly-caught seafood. Not to be missed by any visitor to Cornwall is a visit to the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the educational Eden Project.
    Sea fishing, diving, sailing, kayaking, dolphin spotting and river trips can all be arranged in the town. Shops 500 yards, pub ¾ mile.
