The medieval Cinque Port town of Rye is now 1½ miles inland and it is worth exploring the cobbled streets with their tea shops, restaurants, art galleries and Kino cinema. This is great cycling territory, so bring your bikes or hire them in Rye. Camber Sands is a short drive away, where, as well as taking the opportunity to build sandcastles, you can try your hand at some of the water sports on offer.
