    Well Cottage is a single-storey cottage situated in the owner’s garden, with views to the resident poultry, and just 150 yards from the cliff tops which lead down to Corton beach. The holiday cottage is ideally situated for exploring the Suffolk Heritage coastline, or enjoying the delights of Oulton Broad. Corton is just a couple miles north of Lowestoft, on the Suffolk coast. Tucked between Pleasurewood Hills theme park, Hopton and the A12, the village hugs the rapidly disappearing cliff top. The partly-ruined St Bartholomew’s Church dominates Corton, and the imposing tower can be seen from the beach and the A12. The nave is now a community hall while the 15th-century tower stands hollow and ghostly. Locals claim that the village has much history, and there is no doubt that the Second World War kept the village busy. Two men died trying to disarm a German mine in 1942; while in 1940, an Italian Fiat fighter, flown by Sergente Antonio Lazzari, was shot down near the railway station. Holidaymakers swell the village population by more than 600 each week in the summer and can be seen everywhere from the church craft fair to the car boot sale. Also the old railway has become a favourite haunt for ornithologists with sightings of the arctic warbler, long-eared owl and rough-legged buzzard and there are several bird reserves and sanctuaries in Suffolk. St Bartholomew’s church and railway track bed both give Corton a special character, as does the old gamekeeper’s cottage on the corner of Corton Long Lane. In Lowestoft you can visit the Maritime Museum, or spend a leisurely day at Somerleyton Hall and Gardens just 4 miles away. The East Anglia Transport Museum, 5 miles, is a firm favourite with many visitors. While for something more frenetic, why not take in the weekly powerboat racing at Oulton Broad (May to Sept)? Additionally there are excellent local walking and cycling routes. Shop and pub 250 yards.
