Find cottages in Lowestoft

Lowestoft is in fact the most easterly town in England. This traditional seaside resort has wide, family friendly sandy beaches and a host of attractions to suit all ages.

Formerly a busy fishing resort, today, Lowestoft is the ideal choice for family holidays, boasting beautiful sandy beaches, two traditional piers and a lovely harbour area. The North and South beaches are both proud recipients of the prestigious Blue Flag award and are not only considered two of the finest beaches in the UK, but also two of the best in Europe.

The family tradition of donkey rides on the beach is also alive and well again in Lowestoft after their recent re-introduction. If beaches are not your thing, you could always take a leisurely stroll amongst the many shops in the town or take in the beauty of the Victorian Gardens by the seafront. In addition, the redeveloped seafront is now home to the Royal Plain Fountains, which become a true spectacle when the sun goes down.

Families visiting Lowestoft are truly spoilt for great days out. Just three miles outside the town, you will find Africa Alive, home to over 80 species of African animals, including rhino, giraffe, lemurs (okay, they are from Madagascar) and meerkats. More fun and adventure is assured at Pleasurewood Hills Theme Park, which offers thrills and spills for all ages and is a must visit for families holidaying in Lowestoft.

For a change of pace, the Lowestoft Maritime Museum tells the story of the town’s rich seafaring heritage and is, yes, the most easterly museum in the country. For more days out ideas the resort of Great Yarmouth is in close proximity, as is the wonderful city of Norwich. The waterways of the Broads are also easily accessible.

For holidays that really do have it all, consider staying in cottages in Lowestoft for your next break.

  • Well Cottage

    Corton, nr. Lowestoft

    Grade
    2
    1
    1
    1
    Ref: 25649

Well Cottage is a single-storey cottage situated in the owner’s garden, with views to the resident poultry, and just 150 yards from the cliff tops which lead down to Corton beach. The holiday cottage is ideally situated for exploring the Suffolk Heritage coastline, or enjoying the delights of Oulton Broad. Corton is just a couple miles north of Lowestoft, on the Suffolk coast. Tucked between Pleasurewood Hills theme park, Hopton and the A12, the village hugs the rapidly disappearing cliff top. The partly-ruined St Bartholomew’s Church dominates Corton, and the imposing tower can be seen from the beach and the A12. The nave is now a community hall while the 15th-century tower stands hollow and ghostly. Locals claim that the village has much history, and there is no doubt that the Second World War kept the village busy. Two men died trying to disarm a German mine in 1942; while in 1940, an Italian Fiat fighter, flown by Sergente Antonio Lazzari, was shot down near the railway station. Holidaymakers swell the village population by more than 600 each week in the summer and can be seen everywhere from the church craft fair to the car boot sale. Also the old railway has become a favourite haunt for ornithologists with sightings of the arctic warbler, long-eared owl and rough-legged buzzard and there are several bird reserves and sanctuaries in Suffolk. St Bartholomew’s church and railway track bed both give Corton a special character, as does the old gamekeeper’s cottage on the corner of Corton Long Lane. In Lowestoft you can visit the Maritime Museum, or spend a leisurely day at Somerleyton Hall and Gardens just 4 miles away. The East Anglia Transport Museum, 5 miles, is a firm favourite with many visitors. While for something more frenetic, why not take in the weekly powerboat racing at Oulton Broad (May to Sept)? Additionally there are excellent local walking and cycling routes. Shop and pub 250 yards.

All on ground floor: Living room with French doors, sofa bed (for alternative sleeping) and dining area with wooden floors. Kitchen. 1 double bedroom. Shower room with toilet.

Electric heaters, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Blu-ray. Electric cooker. Microwave. Washing machine. Dishwasher. Fridge/freezer. Wi-fi. Small courtyard and patio area. Barbecue. Parking (1 car). No smoking.
