    There is so much to see and do in this scenic area. Chawton is just over a mile away, home to Jane Austen’s House, where she wrote a number of her great works. It is now has a museum dedicated to her. There is also Chawton House Library, an internationally renowned research institution. Portsmouth with its historic dockyard, Spinnaker Tower, the D-Day and Royal Marines museums, Gunwharf Quays, various museums, art and entertainments, waterside dining and shopping outlets, is about a 40-minute drive, as is Chichester, with its ornate cathedral, festival theatre, cinema, Goodwood Races and Fontwell Races. Other places of interest locally include Gilbert White’s House in nearby Selborne, 3 miles, which is also a haven for flora and fauna.

    Alresford is about 8 miles away, with the Watercress Line steam railway – a delightful trip on an old steam train stopping at various stations along the way. Also worth a visit, is the market town of Petersfield with main line station and Winchester, with its cathedral, Guildhall Water Meadows and Intech Science Centre and Planetarium. Children will love Marwell Wildlife Park, Peppa Pig World, Birdworld and Farnham, with Alice Holt Forest Woods, home to Go Ape treetop adventure. The Queen Elizabeth Country Park at Horndean has 1,400 acres of woodland and downland, and is about 9 miles distant. The beaches at Wittering and Hayling are within easy reach, about a 40-minute drive, and sailing in the Solent is possible from numerous marinas in the area.
