    Also of great historical interest is the abbey town of Sherborne, the famous Gold Hill at Shaftesbury and the medieval towns of Salisbury and Wells – all offer their own blend of quaint shops and museums to explore, individual shops to browse and tearooms for a welcome refreshment break. For an altogether different scene, the south coast beaches and seaside towns can be reached in around an hour’s drive. Active souls can try their hand at a spot of fishing or a round or two of golf locally, while those preferring spectator sports can visit the National Hunt race course in nearby Wincanton. If you haven’t yet discovered Exmoor, you are in for a treat. It is the undiscovered corner of the south west with quiet country lanes and uncrowded beauty spots even in the busy July/August months. For beach lovers there are a number of beaches within a short distance, Minehead Beach/Harbour 1.5 miles, Dunster Beach 3 miles, Blue Anchor Beach 5 miles and Porlock Weir Harbour/Beach 5 miles. The famous surfing beaches at Woolacombe and Croyde are approximately 90 minutes west by car on roads with some spectacular scenery to view as you cross Exmoor.
