Church Stretton is a historic market town situated between Ludlow and Shrewsbury and a hot spot for walkers due to its proximity to the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Known for having some of the oldest known rock formations in the world, the town is surrounded by picturesque villages, and is an excellent base for your cottage holiday in Shropshire; ideal for exploring the wonderful surrounding countryside.

The town is also referred to as ‘Little Switzerland’ due to the hilly landscape and the way in which the houses hug the hillside. It was developed as a spa resort in Victorian and Edwardian times, offering respite from the newly industrialised urban areas of Britain.

Church Stretton contains a number of listed and protected buildings; including the Grade I listed St Laurence’s Church. There are several antique shops and independent stores in the town, a large antiques market, numerous traditional tea shops and cafes and many friendly pubs. Acton Scott Historic Working Farm and the nearby Snailbeach Lead Mine are also worth a visit.

The Long Mynd, which rises immediately to the west of Church Stretton, is renowned for paragliding and hang gliding and is home to England’s second highest golf course. The Long Mynd, together with the Stretton Hills, which lie to the east of the town, is popular for walking and hiking.

The historic Rectory Woods is a peaceful place to stroll. Route 32/33 of the Regional Cycle Route runs through Church Stretton on its route between Craven Arms and Shrewsbury. Mountain biking is popular on the many country lanes and bridleways in the surrounding hilly countryside and the town has swimming pools, a BMX facility and other public sports facilities.
