The spa town of Buxton with its magnificent architecture, shops, swimming pool and Opera House is just 20 minutes away, and the other Peak District towns and villages such as Bakewell, Tideswell and Hartington can all be reached within around half an hour. Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and the beautiful honeypot village of Castleton are around 40 minutes away, and the National Trusts Quarry Bank Mill, Little Morton Hall, Tatton Park and Biddulph Grange are all nearby. Finally for those thrillseekers Matlock with its cable car to the Heights of Abraham can be reached in around 45 minutes and Alton Towers in around half an hour.

    High in the hamlet of Riber in the shadow of the castle just outside Matlock and surrounded by tranquil rolling countryside, The Stables is situated in the grounds of the privately-owned Riber Hall. Here visitors can also sample a ride to The Heights of Abraham by cable car and admire the views of ‘Little Switzerland’ as Byron once described this area. For the more inquisitive visit the Mining Museum for a fascinating look into the area’s past. Shop 2 miles, pub 11/2 miles.

Converted from an old stone barn and very comfortably fitted and equipped, these spacious cottages enjoy shared use of a paddock garden with a stream, and are adjacent to the owners’ farmhouse home. They are bookable as completely self contained cottages, or, as one very large property sleeping 22 and 2 children in 12 bedrooms. This is excellent walking country, with a glorious landscape of heather clad moors and wind sculptured stones. Pony trekking locally. Cycle hire available 2 miles. Good fly fishing is available at Ladybower Reservoir, 8 miles away. Within 4 miles are the village of Hope (with good shops and pubs) and Castleton, with its Blue John Caverns, Peveril Castle and bustling cafe’s, inns, restaurants and craft shops. Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, Bakewell and Buxton are all within 15 miles and Alton Towers is about 1 hour’s drive. The local railway station (0.5 miles) enables return rides from Hope Valley walking, or easy visits to Magna and Meadowhall in Sheffield, and the Science Museum in Manchester.
