Find cottages in Rothbury

Rothbury is an extremely picturesque market town surrounded by the beautiful rural countryside of Coquetdale; the perfect location for your cottage in Northumberland, on the edge of the Northumberland National Park and with easy access to the Cheviot Hills and Northumberland coast.

The village retains an old world charm and offers plenty of historical attractions and outdoor activities. Discover tranquil country lanes and way-marked cycle paths, including the Pennine Cycle Way and Reviers Cycle Route, both of which run through the National Park. This unspoilt area is also known for its abundance of wildlife.

Cragside House and Gardens is one of the most popular visitor attractions and is also the first building in the world lit by hydroelectricity. Built in the 18th Century, the house is essentially a museum of gadgetry and the gardens boast a maze, play area, waterfall and walking trails that meander through the stunning woodlands. In the grounds you will also find one of Europe’s largest rock gardens and the oldest iron bridge in the UK.

The Anglican Church is also an architectural masterpiece dating back to 1850 and the St Armstrong market cross nearby was erected in 1902 by the widow of Lord Armstrong, the inventor who lived at Cragside. The Pele tower is an important part of Northumberland history and visitors can view this 14th Century construct just half a mile outside Rothbury.

Rothbury has the most glorious countryside and anyone who enjoys the great outdoors will be spoilt for choice with the abundance of walking and cycling trails, horse riding, climbing and golf. The ideal base for exploring the surrounding countryside, Rothbury is also situated close enough to the Northumberland coast for lovely days out where 30 miles of unspoilt beaches and hidden coves are just waiting to be explored.

The River Coquet, which runs through the town, is an ideal spot for a day’s fishing or tranquil river side walks.

Experience the beauty of Northumberland for yourself when you search for Rothbury holiday cottages.
