Find cottages in Wells-next-the-Sea

Wells-Next-The-Sea has a sweeping beach, a small fishing harbour and is one of the most picturesque towns on the North Norfolk Coast.

This unspoilt seaside destination is perfect for peaceful, relaxing holidays without the crowds you might find in bigger coastal resorts. As you wander through the town browse the independent shops before stopping at the quay for some fish and chips while you watch the boats coming and going. In town there are fine restaurants and cosy traditional pubs to be found.

The clean sandy beach here goes on for miles; great for beach combing and family days by the sea. To get there, just hop aboard the miniature steam train that travels from the town down to the beach and you could always walk back along the raised path, which offers great views over the channel and salt marshes.

The surrounding area also has lots to offer, including beautiful unspoilt countryside, family walks, excellent bird watching and of course watersports. This area is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and close to the Holkham National Nature Reserve. In fact viewers of BBC’s Springwatch and Autumnwatch might be interested to know that Pensthorpe, where the filming took place, is close by.

For a photo opportunity with a difference take the kids alpaca trekking; you get to walk these animals along the clifftop path, while the owner tells you a little about the history of the local town, coast and countryside.

    Warham, nr. Wells-next-the-sea

    Grade

    2
    Ref: W44318

With its large fir tree populated gardens surrounded by woodland and high fencing, ’Hawthorn House’ offers a farm building like atmosphere and appearance that attracts prolific bird and wildlife year round. The private and peaceful aspect from which to enjoy them is situated far from main road traffic in one single road of mostly privately owned semi-detached housing that overlooks Holkham Estate farmland and Wells to the north.
Warham is a farming village (located within the Norfolk coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty boundary) of significant agricultural, historical and archaeological importance that offers bird watchers, ramblers, dog owners and those generally seeking a more authentic holiday experience a chance to explore the real Norfolk far from the madding crowd. It features a famous old pub, the River Stiffkey, East Anglia’s best preserved iron age hill fort (Norfolk Iceni tribe - Celtic Queen Boudica), two churches that provide ample evidence of the Norman conquest (Warham was amongst land awarded to Odo Bishop of Bayeaux who commissioned the famous tapestry) and an enduring connection with agricultural pioneers the Cokes of Holkham Hall.
In spite of its very rural location Warham is literally 3 minutes drive from the sailing harbour of Wells-next-the-sea with its narrow gauge railway, picturesque quay and lovely mix of traditional and artisan cafés, shops and restaurants. The whole coastline, both east and west offers a collection of quays, marshes and breathtaking beaches, and whether you are relaxing on the beach in the sun, crabbing at Blakeney, walking at Brancaster or birdwatching on one of the many marshes, you will be spoilt for choice. Called ’Royal Norfolk’ as this area is the country retreat for the Royal family, The Sandringham Estate, Holkham Hall and the Blickling Estate are all within easy reach, as is Pensthorpe Nature Reserve. History lovers should plan in a visit to the medieval city of Norwich or the Hanseatic old quarter of Kings Lynn, and those seeking all the traditional seaside attractions, including a Sealife Centre and a small fun fair should head to Hunstanton. With numerous walks and cycle routes available and lots of great places to eat, you really will be spoilt for choice. After heading back to Hawthorn House, leave your walking boots in the custom-built boot room, freshen up in the convenient wet room on the ground floor, and enjoy a glass of wine in the evening - maybe even sharing a toast with a new wildlife friend. Beach 2 miles. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.

Ground floor: Living room with French doors. Dining room. Kitchen. Utility/boot room. Wet room with toilet. First floor: 3 bedrooms: 2 double, 1 single. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet.

Woodburner in living room. Economy 10 central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Travel cot. High chair. 48" Freeview TV. Electric cooker. Microwave. Washing machine. Fridge/freezer. Wi-fi. Lawned gardens with patio and furniture. Barbecue. Parking (1 car); additional on road parking. Cycle store. No smoking. NB: Step from lawn to patio.
