Enjoying an excellent position close to the breathtaking North Norfolk coastline, which is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Barsham Barns (refs 31169, 31170, 31171, 31172 and 31173) provide the perfect base for discerning guests looking for somewhere special to stay, relax and unwind. Created by an architect and his interior designer wife, the properties are all stunning and beautifully appointed, and provide a wonderful place to relax after a full day of sightseeing.
Great East Barn used to be the large 19th-century granary, and sits in a tranquil river valley facing south and east towards an unbridged ford and the gentle rise to Barsham Hill. This property has lots of space and was designed for open-plan living, and is perfect for a large group of friends or family. Imagine yourself in the comfort of the first floor living room, with the traditional, rustic clunch walls behind you, surrounded by crisp furnishings and gazing across calm green fields and grazing sheep. The huge open-plan space extends past a central island kitchen to a spacious, airy, glazed dining room with more fabulous views down the valley. Great East Barn is a cottage with a difference, where country meets city, by combining designer details with traditional building techniques. All of the holiday properties have access to a spa area with a 10-seater hot tub and steam room, and also a games room.
There is so much to do in the area that you will be spoilt for choice. Just 5 miles away, Wells-next-the-Sea is a must, with its narrow gauge railway that takes you to the beach, its picturesque quay and mix of artisan cafés and shops. For all the fun of the fair, head to Hunstanton, with its Sealife Centre, seaside amusements and beach that really does seem to go on forever. Or, for the traditional pursuit of crabbing, head to Blakeney where you can also take a boat trip out to see the seals. Further along the coast lie the traditional seaside towns of Sheringham and Cromer. Sheringham, with its shingle beach also boasts 1000 acres of natural parkland with a multitude of walks, including cliff top trails with some of the best views in the area at Sheringham Park. Cromer delights with its traditional promenade and pier, including its famous end of pier show. In fact, seaside lovers could choose a different beach or seaside town every day and not be disappointed.
Culture vultures are very well catered for too, with numerous National trust properties and stately homes in easy reach, including The Blickling Estate, Holkham Hall and, of course Sandringham, all of which host seasonal events throughout the year. The Thursford Collection is well worth a visit too, as is their famous Thursford Christmas Spectacular. Try and squeeze in a trip to the Broads, where you can join a trip or even hire your own day launch and drift along spotting wildlife. Described as ’the bird watching capital of the UK’, Norfolk boasts marshes, RSPB sites and nature reserves. Add in the fact that great walks, cycling routes and golf and fishing are all close by, and you’ll see why you’ve picked the right spot to stay when you book one of the properties at Barsham Barns. Shop, pub and restaurant 11/2 miles.
