Norfolk Broads

There are not many places which compare to the Norfolk Broads. It’s hard to believe that this watery land is part of England – the numerous rivers, barges, and water mills make it look more like a Dutch landscape.

Cottages with pools near the Norfolk Broads are well placed to take advantage of the boating routes and walking trails which criss-cross The Broads from Norfolk to Suffolk. There are more than 125 miles of waterways to discover, and thousands of boats, kayaks, bicycles and barges available to hire. Fishing tours are particularly popular with families and solitary visitors, and you are likely to find eels, perch and pike in the freshwater rivers, as well as flounders, sea bass and mullet around the estuary.

If you prefer to focus on life above the water, you can still spot plenty of wildlife on the banks of the river along the various routes – there is a friendly population of otters near Barton Broad, and if you’re very quiet you might even spot a Chinese water deer hiding among the fens. If you are staying in a cottage with a private pool you will be woken up by the sound of birds singing and splashing about in the water, and at sunset, look out for pipistrelle bats swooping around the eaves.

When you are staying at a holiday cottage with a pool, it is easy to alternate between outdoor pursuits and cultural day trips to the nearby landmarks of Norfolk and Suffolk – follow the River Yare all the way to Norwich and visit the city’s stunning cathedral, and the 12th century Norwich Castle. Or head south to the seaside resorts of Lowestoft and Southwold, which both boast sandy beaches and traditional beach-side entertainment.

Cottages with swimming pools will bring a whole new level of excitement to this unique area which is sure to show you a side of England that you’ve never seen before.
