It has a dog-friendly village pub, café, restaurant and picnic area. Drive on from Barley and time stands still in Downham (made famous by "Whistle Down the Wind" with Hayley Mills and many period dramas).

    The village of Fence, 2 miles, has a few good dining pubs as well as a village shop and post office. A wider range of amenities can be found in the market town of Colne, 7 miles, which has a good selection of shops and supermarkets as well as bars, restaurants, theatres and Boundary Mill which is popular with bargain hunters. Barrowford, 3 miles, is absolutely worth a visit with its coffee shops, wine bars, boutique shops and if the mood takes you, some great takeaways.

    Alternatively, on the north side of Pendle Hill lies Clitheroe, 6 miles, which offers wonderful shopping opportunities, a world-famous wine shop, and access to villages such as Waddington, with its real ale pubs.

    Being close to the Lancashire/Yorkshire border makes this property the ideal touring base, as there is so much to see and do within easy driving distance. Haworth and Brontë country are certainly worth a visit, 17 miles, as is Skipton where you can browse the shops and stop for a spot of lunch, or even try an award winning Stanforths pork pie.
