By Wyndham Vacation Rentals

The seaside town of Southport sits between Liverpool and Blackpool and has been a popular holiday destination for over a hundred years. This is a traditional English seaside holiday destination, with sandy beaches, ice-cream parlours, tea shops, an old-fashioned pier and promenade.

Southport has a lot to offer; it’s a perfect spot for a traditional family holiday on the beach, has lovely parks and gardens, family attractions and a great nightlife. It’s also within reach of both Liverpool and Blackpool, so there are plenty of additional options for younger groups of friends or couples too.

The beaches extend for miles in either direction, so while there are popular tourist areas, there are also lots of places where you will be able to enjoy the surroundings in perfect tranquillity. Stretches of the coastline are designated nature reserves and are popular for birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts.

The town centre has many signs of its Victorian town planning style still intact, thanks to the many buildings and streets that have lasted the distance. If you are looking for something special, the town hosts a number of popular annual events, such as the Southport Flower Show (August), which is the largest independent flower show in the UK, the spectacular Southport Airshow (September) and the International Jazz Festival (May).

This part of the Lancashire coast also has a number of championship golf courses and both fishing and sailing is available nearby. To see self-catering accommodation in the area, see holiday cottages in Southport.
