Just 6 miles away is Bassenthwaite Lake with a variety of watersports and the Lakeland Wildlife Park. Enjoy Derwent Water, Crummock Water and Buttermere, surrounded by Lakeland’s dramatic scenery. Guests can enjoy the Lakes Distillery, 7 miles away has a lovely visitor attraction and serves good food daily. There is tennis, riding and golf, as well as good fishing locally and excellent bird watching from the farm, as well as the chance to spot the occasional red squirrel and deer, whilst it is a short drive to Osprey Watch at Dodd Wood Bassenthwaite. Situated on the edge of the National Park, it is known locally as ’Back o’ Skiddaw’, a walk over which will bring you into the bustling market town of Keswick. Keswick with its lakes, Bassenthwaite and Derwent Water are a 15-minute drive and full of interesting things to see and do. Enjoy a ride up Derwent Water on the Keswick Launch, use the many walking and cycle paths to explore the breathtaking scenery, experience Keswick Spa, the theatre by the lake and the numerous museums suitable for all the family. The traditional market town of Cockermouth, Wordsworth’s birthplace, is 14 miles and the historic city of Carlisle and the Scottish border is 16 miles. This is an excellent base for exploring the northern Lake District. Shops 2.5 miles, pub and restaurant 2 miles.

You are only 10 minutes’ walk from Lake Windermere and if you turn right outside the house, you are straight onto Wansfell or into Blue Hill woods, so called for the bluebells in spring. You could walk north towards Kirkstone and drop back into the village via the falls, or go up the hill or wander over to Jenkins Wood and Troutbeck for a pint at the local pub. Early in the morning you many see deer from the back bedroom.
