With panoramic views over a meadow to the White Cliffs and across the Channel to France, this traditional fisherman’s cottage sits on a private shingle road in a conservation area on Kingsdown beach. Where the sky, cliffs and sea are a constantly changing canvas. At dawn the sunrise turns the White Cliffs pink, and on a clear day you can see Cap Gris Nez. At night the ferries, lit up like gin palaces, glide silently across the horizon.
Swimming, rock pooling, prawning, beachcombing, kite flying, fishing, and golfing are on the doorstep. The village shops are just 400 yards away, and there’s a family pub on the beach. Enjoy a breathtaking walk across the cliffs to the tearoom perched above St Margaret’s Bay, with a choice of teas and homemade cakes. Stroll along the Saxon shoreline, past castles and fishing boats to Deal, with its award-winning mix of shops, cafés, bric-a-bracs and restaurants.
Go ‘seal spotting’ by riverboat from 16th century Sandwich, listen to the world-renowned choir at Canterbury Cathedral, and visit Churchill’s underground war-rooms at Dover Castle. Watch Punch & Judy on Broadstairs’ beach and check out the Spitfire and Hurricane fighters at Manston’s museum on the way. You can even sail to France for the day and browse the stalls in Boulogne market, or window-shop on Le Touquet’s fashionable high street.
Sit under the olive trees in front of the cottage and reflect on the tranquil and un-spoilt location. Or relax with a chilled glass of wine in the enclosed rear garden, surrounded by Mediterranean plants and seaside paraphernalia.
Inside the cottage, conch shells, ship’s lanterns and old wooden floats sit alongside French wall mirrors, oil paintings and an array of marine memorabilia. As well as satellite TV, a DVD library, hi-fi with an iPod dock, and unlimited wi-fi.
