Located in the heart of the Isle of Wight, Newport is the principal town of the island and a fashionable holiday destination, with plenty of historical attractions and outdoor activities perfectly suited to holidaying families, friends and couples.

Due to Newport’s central position it is possibly to easily explore all corners of the island; from the Needles in the south west, to Cowes in the north, Bembridge in the east and Ventnor in the south.

Signs of Roman settlements are visible in Newport and two Roman Villas have been excavated which are open to the public. The Newport Roman Villa was built as a farmhouse in 280 AD and the site and museum are worth visiting.

The town''s close proximity to the Rivers Solent and Medina mean that there are lots of activities available for those who enjoy water sports, and sailing, kayaking and swimming are particularly popular.

    Toad Hall is a two bedroom, mid-terraced holiday cottage located in the Island Harbour marina, on the east bank of the River Medina near the village of Binfield. From the house, there are walks (wellies needed!) south to Newport and north to a renowned inn and Queen Victoria’s church at Whippingham. There are a number of other pubs nearby serving food. There is a bistro in the marina looking out over the water and also serving drinks and meals. Also within the marina, there is a chandlery which sells basics such as bread, milk and eggs. Osborne House and Carisbrooke Castle are very near and the cottage is an ideal base to explore the rest of the island. The ferry from Portsmouth arrives at Fishbourne, which is only a 10-minute drive away. Shops 2 miles and pub 1 mile.
