At the bottom of the tumbling multi-coloured sandstone cliffs, is a golden sandy beach where guests can relax, catch the surf or even find fossils. At low tide there may be a chance to see dinosaur footprints in the sandstone ledge at Hanover Point. Adjoining Brook Bay, explore the busier beach of Compton which offers a two mile stretch of golden and dark sands with views of the white chalk cliffs of Freshwater Bay.
    This area also has an abundance of scenery from the rolling countryside to the outstanding heritage coastline offering a great range of walking routes with over 500 miles of footpaths including the popular Tennyson Trail named after the famous poet who once resided on the island. Other quiet traditional villages of this south west part of the island include Brighstone, Hulverstone and Mottistone.
