From this level there are also wonderful views over the Brook House gardens and the surrounding area. This property also boasts its own paved courtyard area with table and chairs.
    There is an abundance of scenery from the rolling countryside to the outstanding heritage coastline offering a great range of walking routes with over 500 miles of footpaths including the The Tennyson Trail, named after the famous poet who once resided on the island. One mile away is the unspoilt golden dark sands of Brook Bay and a little further along the coast is the busier Compton Beach. They both have views of the white cliffs of Freshwater Bay, but it is also a great place to find fossils. At low tide there may even be a chance to see dinosaur footprints in the sandstone ledge at Hanover Point. The small pretty village of Brighstone is only 3 miles way offering a shop, pub, restaurant and a post office. The Isle of Wight offers many places to visit including Chessell Pottery which is a working pottery with a paint studio where you can make a memento to take home with you (1.2 miles). Head towards Niton and you will find Blackgang Chine (8.5 miles), the UK’s oldest amusement park which features rides, life-sized dinosaurs pirate ships, fairy villages and much more. If you continue further along towards Ventnor you can visit the octagonal tower of St Catherine’s Lighthouse which is situated at the most southerly point of the island, offering views out to the English Channel. Dinosaur Isle home to the islands fossil and geological heritage (17 miles), Robin Hill Country park offering exciting rides and adventure play all set in beautiful rolling down land and forest (12 miles).Shops 3 miles, pub (serving food) 1/2 mile.Restaurant 3 miles and beach 1 mile.     Owned by the National Trust, these 19th-century, semi-detached stone cottages are situated at the bottom of the downs close to Compton Bay. The cottages are surrounded by lovely views of the rolling hillsides and the white chalk cliffs of Freshwater Bay, and make an ideal base for walking enthusiasts. There are many routes along the coastline including the popular Tennyson Trail. Compton Beach, with its golden dark sands is just over a mile away and makes a great place to find fossils; at low tide there may even be a chance to see dinosaur footprints in the sandstone ledge at Hanover Point.
    Blackgang Chine, the UK’s oldest amusement park, is just 10 miles away and features rides, life-sized dinosaurs, pirate ships, fairy villages and much more. Calbourne Water Mill, 5 miles, dates back to the 11th century and is the island’s only working water mill. The Needles, with traditional children’s rides, chairlift to Alum Bay and glass making demonstrations, is just 5½ miles. The island has many other attractions to offer which can also be explored by an open-top bus which stops regularly at various points. Outdoor pursuits include cycling, riding, sailing and fishing.
