    Ref: 30479

This historic, waterfront, detached cottage is thought to date back to the 18th century and is widely recognised as one of the first noted dwellings along the river bank. The unusual staircase curves 180 degrees to the first floor, and curves another 180 degrees to the second floor. The holiday cottage nestles between the historically important Odessa Boatyard and modern day chandlers, and there are several historic vessels moored alongside nearby, with some historic cranes and old timber outbuildings which contribute to the overall character of the area. In bygone days, the harbour was busy with the comings and goings of coasters and cargo boats, although today it is only used by pleasure craft and narrowboats. The quayside still has working boatyards, chandlers, marine and business units. The nearby town centre of Newport bustles with shops, restaurants and pubs. There are local markets on Tuesdays and Fridays, an arts complex at the old quay and multiplex cinema. It is an ideal base for touring the island, by car or bus. Carisbrooke Castle is nearby.
