A poetic town of timber framed buildings and a history dating back to 690AD, Ledbury has a lot to fall in love with. It was the birthplace of the poets Elizabeth Barrett Browning and John Masefield and provided inspiration for William Wordsworth when he wrote the lilting sonnet ‘St. Catherine of Ledbury’. By taking a quick wander around the town, it is easy to see why they were so inspired.

Ledbury is filled with beautiful black and white timber framed buildings, especially along Church Lane and Ledbury High Street. One of the most striking buildings of this kind is situated in the heart of the town, Market House, built in 1617. The parish church of St. Michael and All Angels is picturesque and gives an insight into some of the town’s rich history. Stunning and beautifully preserved sixteenth century frescoes can be viewed in ‘the Painted Room’, St. Katherine’s Hospital provides a rare look at a thirteenth century hospital complex of almshouses, chapel and hall, and nearby Grade I listed Eastnor Castle is a striking example of a 19th century ‘mock castle’.

    The cottages are all detached and the English oak timber used to restore their interiors was felled and machined from the extensive woodland on the estate itself. The furnishings and fittings for all the cottages have been supplied by local businesses and during restoration, the owners have paid great attention to detail. Parkers (ref RAAP) was originally built in 1610 and is a listed building lovingly restored to the very highest standard and has several items of antique furniture. Parkers Lodge (ref RAAQ) is a smaller two-bedroomed cottage completed in 2006 and fitted out to a very high standard, whilst Brook House (ref RAAR) is a listed building dating from around 1670 and emanates a marvellous ambience.
