By Wyndham Vacation Rentals

Surrounded by the Cotswolds Area of Natural Beauty, the market town of Stroud is one of the most picturesque in the region. The ‘capital’ of the south western Cotswolds, Stroud is located at the meeting point of Five Valleys and is renowned for its steep streets, stunning views and exceptional beauty.

The town has plenty to offer visitors, whether they wish to explore the rich cultural heritage, enjoy outdoor activities or discover the cafe culture that the growing community of local artists have established.

There’s an abundance of historical buildings here and well established parks scattered throughout the town. Stroud’s Museum in the Park is a family friendly venue that features a range of exhibits relating to local history. Woodchester Mansion is a 19th Century Victorian Gothic masterpiece that was abandoned in 1873 and remaining untouched by the modern world to this day; both venues offer insight into the town’s history. The Arts and Crafts Museum is also well worthwhile, as are visits to beautiful historical buildings such as the Hill Paul Building, the Subscription Rooms and the School of Science and Art.

Stroud features some attractive outdoor attractions including walks along the canal towpath leading from Stroud to Stonehouse, and a wander in Stroud Park or a picnic in Woodchester Park are lovely ways to enjoy the great outdoors with family and friends.

Due to its location, Stroud offers easy access to walking trails that lead off into the Cotswold countryside, and holidaymakers can choose between a good selection of short or longer hikes. Cycling is also a popular way to explore Stroud and area. Other outdoor activities include clay pigeon shooting, paragliding, hot air ballooning and even water-skiing.
