Lydney

The town of Lydney lies on the north bank of the River Severn and is popular with visitors who come here to enjoy the Forest of Dean and tranquil surrounding countryside.

The Royal Forest of Dean lies nearby and was once a Saxon hunting ground, although today it attracts nature lovers and outdoors enthusiasts from across the country, as well as artists and photographers, who come to capture the beauty of one of England''s last remaining Royal forests.

Holidaymakers can also enjoy river cruises on the Severn or maybe visit Clearwell Caves, home to an iron mining museum where there are a network of underground caverns dating back to the Bronze Age.

The town is home to the Dean Forest Railway, a preserved steam railway that gives you a great opportunity to take the kids for a day trip they will love; the train runs from Lydney Junction to nearby Parkend.

Another great option for a family day out is the Forest Model Village on Lydney Park Estate, or head a little further afield to Elton Farm, where you''ll find 8 acres of mazes to explore and a mountainboard centre.

In town stop off at Newerne Street, the town''s main shopping area, where you can pick up some souvenirs for family and friends.

With so many stunning Lydney holiday cottages to choose from, the only problem you will have is picking just one, so come and see all that this pretty town has to offer.
