Chipping Campden

Chipping Campden is renowned as one of the prettiest towns in the Cotswolds and in fact the UK. Located in the most picturesque region of Gloucestershire, it’s an extraordinary example of enchanting, Olde Worlde Cotswold England.

Once a wool merchants'' town, the area is at the heart of the shire counties and you can’t help but fall in love with the quintessential Gloucestershire countryside that surrounds it, making Chipping Campden the perfect location for a cottage holiday in the Cotswolds.

From medieval times, when the town was famous across Europe as a centre for the wool market, Chipping Campden has retained a sense of prosperity, which you can see in the exquisitely decorated ancient houses and preserved craftsmanship. The whole town was declared a conservation area in 1970 and the population remains around only 2000. A visit to the ‘wool’ church of St James will give a real sense of the town in its heyday, with the famous ancient alter tapestries and glorious 120ft meter tower.

The Cotswolds is famous for its arts and crafts. From the handsome fine-art galleries of Broadway to the first-rate antique dealers of Stow-on-the-Wold, you won’t have to go far to discover that a legacy of great artists, such as the Gimsons and the Rothensteins, lived and created in the area. Chipping Campden has silversmiths working in the old crafts Guild building and an abundance of exceptional craft shops and boutique shops.

In true country style, there are a wealth of quaint tea-rooms, organic cafes and traditional Inns, serving craft ale and home cooked food.

Chipping Campden is surrounded by luscious landscapes and for nature lovers, the historic gardens of Hidcote Manor and Kiftsgate are resplendent all year round. If you visit the region in Spring and Summer you’ll see the entire region in award-winning bloom.
