Wimborne Minster, built in 705AD, was founded by the mother of Henry VII, and is famed for its chained library and the tomb of Alfred the Great’s brother. Also, The Gin House has a large selection of over 130 different gins available, and there are various festivals and fairs throughout the year.

    Within easy driving distance are beaches at Sandbanks, Studland Bay and Bournemouth, Poole Nature Reserve, Brownsea Island, the National Trust-owned country house Kingston Lacy, and to the west, The Purbecks, Corfe Castle, and the Jurassic Coastline. Badbury Rings is an Iron Age hillfort and, according to myth, is cited as the place where King Arthur fought his greatest battle. For outdoor enthusiasts there are various walks within easy reach, plus for a family day out, visit the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Cranborne Chase or the Moors Valley, which is suitable for all age groups and it is also dog friendly. As well as scenic walks and excellent wildlife spotting, there are a host of recreational activities such as angling, orienteering, cycle hire, golf, ‘Go-Ape’ Treet Top Adventure, Forest Segway, walking groups, canoeing and péntaque.

    Avon Heath is also nearby ideal for keen amblers.     Nearby, enjoy the Ferndown, Stour and Forest Trail and Stour Valley Way. Further afield are many coastal and inland footpaths, including the Dorset Coastal Path where you can enjoy the Jurassic coastline. The local area has two popular parks, Avon Heath Country Park and Moors Valley Country Park. The nearest traffic-free cycle paths are in Hurn Forest and Castleman Trail. There are many all over the New Forest National Park, where wild ponies roam freely among miles of heathland. There are also many other places of interest to visit within the area, such as the village of Burley, Exbury Gardens and Beaulieu Motor Museum. Regular ferries to the Isle of Wight depart from the famous royal yachting town of Lymington. Bournemouth is close by with beach, well kept town gardens and trips on the Bournemouth Eye, which rises high above the town to give the most amazing panoramic views over the whole area. At the foot of the pier is the fascinating Oceanarium where the whole family can discover life beneath the waves. Poole is within easy reach, with its sandy beach at Sandbanks and the harbour town where trips to Brownsea Island (NT) can be enjoyed. Beach 9 miles. Shop ½ mile, pub ¼ mile, restaurant on site.
