    The countryside around Orford Mill is dotted with sleepy villages nestled among the hills, while extensive woodlands, traversed by many footpaths, offer the chance to experience the area’s natural beauty at close quarters. Adjacent to the grounds are the renowned RHS gardens at Rosemoor, and other local attractions include Dartington Crystal, offering a factory tour and visitor centre. Great Torrington is only a mile away with good shopping and amenities, and there is golf at nearby Hartland. Orford Mill adjoins Torrington Common which extends to 365 acres, incorporating 20 miles of footpaths. The common is a haven for wildlife. Great care has been taken to retain the feel of the original buildings and extensive use has been made of traditional materials. Most have garden, terrace or patio.     This dramatic Roman style 32ft pool (4ft 6in deep) has a safe children’s bay reached by separate steps. Completing the experience are sauna and steam room (£1 by slot meter), a refreshing cool drench shower fed from the underground spring and a separate Jacuzzi with hydro jets.

    WATERFALL POOL
    This award winning pool is sculptured in a curved shape over 40ft long (4ft 6in deep), and bounded in part by a natural grotto rock face of tumbling water. It incorporates the ultimate in water movement technology: floor and wall massage jets, water volcanoes, water cannons and swim jets. There are two Jacuzzis - one in the pool - sauna and steam room (£1 by slot meter) and hot and cold spring-fed showers.

    IN SYMPATHY WITH THE ENVIRONMENT
    Tuckenhay Mill has led the way with most of the pools being heated by ground source heat pumps. Awards have been given for energy saving as well as pool design and conversion of buildings. 2008 saw the extension of the 20 acres of stunning natural landscape opening up nearly a mile of footpaths through dells, meadows and woodlands along with a natural waterfall. This is the place to enjoy a personal ‘Spring or Autumn Watch’ with swallows in the log store, buzzards on the adjacent hillside, owls in the woods and ducks and swans down on Bow Creek. Strolls can be taken with the dog and picnics enjoyed on a bench by the river. Children can stroke the goats and even collect eggs for breakfast from the hens (when laying)!

The properties make a cosy getaway for two or an extended family (total combined 22 guests), and the pets. The farm itself dates back to William the Conqueror and was mentioned in the Domesday Book survey of 1086. Explore the surrounding countryside either on foot in the neighbouring Blackdown Hills, or by car with the historic market town of Honiton and the majestic Jurassic Coast just a short drive away. There is also shared use of a heated indoor swimming pool to keep the kids entertained without the need for travelling, and ample space in which to kick a ball around or take the dogs for a well deserved walk. Younger children can entertain themselves in the enclosed play area with swings and sandpit whilst the young adults of the group can sink into a book or get online with wi-fi access in each of the properties.
    Swallow Cottage (ref 31207), Apple Cottage (ref 31206), Cider Cottage (ref 31208) and Haybarn Cottage (ref 31209) used to be an integral part of the working farm and date back to the Domesday Book although a lot has changed since then. All the cottages have been carefully restored with flagstone floors, oak beams and furnished with beautiful beds and ample furniture. Relax in front of the TV, get online or cook up a feast in the well-equipped kitchen. Swallow Cottage, Cider Cottage and Haybarn Cottage are all wheelchair-friendly.     IN SYMPATHY WITH THE ENVIRONMENT
    Tuckenhay Mill has led the way with most of the pools being heated by ground source heat pumps. Awards have been given for energy saving as well as pool design and conversion of buildings. 2008 saw the extension of the 20 acres of stunning natural landscape opening up nearly a mile of footpaths through dells, meadows and woodlands along with a natural waterfall. This is the place to enjoy a personal ‘Spring or Autumn Watch’ with swallows in the log store, buzzards on the adjacent hillside, owls in the woods and ducks and swans down on Bow Creek. Strolls can be taken with the dog and picnics enjoyed on a bench by the river. Children can stroke the goats and even collect eggs for breakfast from the hens (when laying)!
