Explore Totnes, an attractive old town on the River Dart, with river cruises to Dartmouth, where you can visit castles, go shopping or just take in the sights. For golf enthusiasts, a golf course can be found 1 mile away. Newton Abbot, an old market town, is 2 miles away. Discover National Trust castles at Compton, 3 miles and Berry Pomeroy. There are many other NT places to visit, including Greenway, Agatha Christie’s summer home. Explore Dartmoor, with its rocky tors, wild ponies, exquisite walks, horse riding, fishing, cycling, falconry and golf at Bovey Castle, an award-winning course. Don’t forget to stop for a cream tea in one of the many tea shops on Dartmoor. Within a few miles are the two picturesque villages of Chagford and Mortenhampstead, with historic inns, excellent pubs, tea rooms, curiosity shops, tennis courts and the Miniature Pony Centre. Exmouth is close by and has lovely 2-mile stretch of beach and was once home to the wives of Nelson and Byron respectively, whilst a bit further on lies the genteel town of Budleigh Salterton with its white-washed and thatched cottages which attracted such visitors as Noel Coward and PG Wodehouse. At Exeter, the South West Coastal Path Park is an ideal family day out. Exmoor National Park is also worth a visit, with its rugged landscape and ponies. Shops and pubs 3 miles.

Worthy of special note is the delightful cobbled courtyard which is created by the house and barns which enclose it on three sides, ideal for al fresco dining. Within the grounds is the linhay barn, an attractive traditionally built building on two storeys which is built principally of stone under a re-thatched roof, making this a great games room. Also within the grounds is a detached cider barn complete with a very rare horse engine and original cider press. Colyford has a popular post office, general store and butcher which proves a great asset to the village. There are two public houses and a restaurant. The coastal resort of Seaton lies approximately 1 mile to the south and has a wide pebble beach, a small harbour at the mouth of the River Axe and direct access to the World Heritage Coast and South West Peninsular Coastal Path. This really is a super house for a large family looking for a quiet, peaceful location, and is surrounded by large, lawned gardens. Its interior also has a quirky mix of contemporary and rustic design. Each bedroom is spacious and has its own luxury en-suite. The living room has a large wood burner, and the dining room is very spacious, making it the perfect room for a family gathering or dinner party. The property also boasts a snug with a bar, great for entertaining and playing the host (the bar can be stocked by prior request with the owners). The house is quintessentially pretty and quite unique, and having been built over 500 years ago, it is steeped in history. It is set in a tiered 5-acre garden, with open views across the rolling fields, and has a fire pit, rustic seating and dining areas outside. The friendly owners live next door and are very happy to help. The house is full of charm and original features, from the ancient, heavy oak front door, massive granite inglenook fireplaces to the stone spiral staircases and curved, textured cob walls.
    The Teign Valley is an amazing spot for a number of outdoor activities. There are walks from the door, bike trails, fishing, canoeing, rock climbing, horse riding and golf. Haldon Hill, 20 minutes away, is a great woodland park for off-road cycling, and cycle and Segway hire are also available. There are many golf courses in the National Park, including the glorious Bovey Castle, Teign valley and Stover. Horse riding for all abilities can easily be arranged on the moor, which is a fantastic area to ride in. Dartmoor comprises 47,000 hectares of open access land, which is great for activities such as climbing, letter boxing. or simply strolling across the wonderful moorland to see the ponies. Dawlish Warren, a 25-minute drive, has sand dunes, swimming, moorings and the usual seaside treats, whilst Exmouth, 40 minutes away, has a long, sandy beach with many amenities and is popular with kitesurfers and for rockpooling as well. There are several National Trust properties within a short distance of Weeke Barton. Beach 9 miles. Shop 1½ miles, pub within 1½ miles.

    Peakaboo is a large detached house (originally a pair of cottages) situated on Peak Hill, overlooking Sidmouth, with extensive sea and cliff views. It has a two parking areas and its own 2½-acre private woodland behind the property, with cliff top paths all adjoining National Trust land in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are also stunning views of cliffs and the sea from the octagonal deck. Peakaboo is only a 5-minute drive from Sidmouth and all its amenities; it has been decorated and furnished to a high standard and makes an ideal holiday base for touring this fantastic part of Devon. There are many NT properties to visit including Bicton Park, whilst a trip to Crealy Adventure Park (close to Exeter) will be greatly enjoyed by children. For walkers, the coastal path to Branscombe, Beer and Seaton is fantastic and other places of interest include the Donkey Sanctuary near Seaton (5 miles) as well as Seaton Tramway. There are many activities to enjoy such as windsurfing, sailing, walking, bird-watching, golf and tennis, to name but a few.
    The historic city of Exeter is 20 miles with its stunning cathedral and many shops. Slightly further afield lies the rugged wilderness and beauty of Dartmoor National Park, where both experienced and novice walkers can enjoy the stunning scenery. Visit all the quaint villages in the area and stop for a cream tea.
    Lyme Regis makes an alternative day out and children of all ages will enjoy hunting for fossils in the high cliffs that overlook the town itself. Topsham, Exmouth and Budleigh Salterton are all worth visiting each with independent shops. Shops and pub ¼ mile.
