Along the 2 mile main street are a selection of good inns, cafes, post office and local shops. A must see in the village is the famous grade 2 listed Pack o’ Cards inn, built with 52 windows, 4 decks and 13 rooms. During your stay there is plenty to do, Combe Martin has its own museum with the Dinosaur and Wildlife Park located within 25 acres of land, just a short distance from the cottage. Exmoor Zoo is just 10 miles from the property. The larger seaside town of Ilfracombe is just 5 miles away, and its highlights include the harbour and the famous ‘Verity’ statue, the Victorian Tunnels beach and Landmark Theatre. There is also a good range of shops and amenities. Other highlights in the area are Watermouth Castle, the cliff railway between Lynton and Lynmouth and there is great walking on Exmoor. At Woolacombe and Croyde, you will find some of the best surfing and family beaches in the country. There is also cycling on the Tarka Trail, golf, horse riding and sea fishing trips available locally. Beach 1 mile. Shop and pub 500 yards, restaurant 600 yards.

Barnstaple, a bustling harbourside town with a famous pannier market, offers boat trips to Lundy Island, and a wildlife and dinosaur park, zoological gardens, cycling, fishing, plenty of golf courses, horse riding, quad biking and even a steam railway are found locally. There is a good-sized shared terraced garden at the rear to enjoy the surroundings and guests can enjoy the popular walks to Watersmeet and Valley of the Rocks which can start directly from the door. It is also a short walk to the heart of Lynton, which has a good range of shops, restaurants and amenities. Lynton is connected to its close seaside neighbour Lynmouth by the famous clifftop railway. Lynmouth is delightful and again has a good range of shops and places to eat. There are numerous attractions within easy reach of the house including Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park and Watermouth Castle. At Croyde and Woolacombe some of the best and cleanest surf beaches in the country can be found, as well as many smaller coves and bays. Exmoor has lots to offer including Tarr Steps, the village of Withypool and a walk up Dunkery Beacon, the highest point on Exmoor. A day out into West Somerset is recommended with places such as Porlock Weir, Dunster with its castle (NT) and the seaside town of Minehead, home to the West Somerset Stream Railway. There are NT properties at Arlington and Knightshayes and the RHS gardens at Rosemoor and Great Torrington. Shop, pub and restaurant 200 yards.
