Derbyshire

Derbyshire provides for the most perfect cottage holiday break, with a contrasting landscape that includes the rugged open moorland found in the High Peak to the picture postcard villages set amongst the pretty vales and winding rivers to the south.

The region is dominated by the magnificent Peak District National Park; a playground for walkers, cyclists, naturalists and those seeking the simple pleasures of an outstandingly beautiful part of the UK. In fact Derbyshire has been attracting visitors for decades, with its convenient location, bordering no less than five adjacent counties and of course its abundance of natural assets.

Derbyshire’s varied landscape is perhaps its most notable feature, so it stands to reason that it’s perfect for all sorts of different breaks. If you’re after an active holiday you’ll be spoilt for choice, with fantastic cycling trails, country walks and climbing spots. The county has a large collection of excellent visitor attractions and a rich cultural and historical pedigree, including the renowned Chatsworth House home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. The House is set amongst 100 acres of magnificent grounds, with miles of walks and floral displays. Inside you’ll find a wonderful collection of rare treasures, antiques and paintings.

If you’d like to further explore historic Derbyshire then visit Bolsover Castle and Sudbury Hall; both combine wonderful architecture, great locations and stunning views to make for a great way for visitors to pass the time.

Families will love scaling the Heights of Abraham and is one of the best ways to gain an appreciation of the region’s beauty from its cable cars! Drop by Buxton with its unique charm and wonderful Opera House and don’t miss Solomon’s Temple and Poole’s Cavern.
