Situated on the edge of the Peak District National Park and just a short drive from the famous Arkwright Mills at Cromford, Penny Cottage makes an ideal base from which to explore the region’s attractions. Matlock and Bakewell are close by, as is the picturesque village of Crich with its fantastic Tramway Village, while majestic Chatsworth House and Carsington Reservoir, with its sailing centre, are well worth a visit. Blindwell House dates from 1677 and retains the charm of a traditional miner’s cottage combined with flexible family accommodation and modern facilities. The cottage has countryside views and walks from the doorstep as well as a sunny courtyard garden with lockable storage for bicycles.
    The three bedrooms can be set up either as double or twin rooms, and the master bedroom has an en-suite bathroom as well as room for a cot. The stylish family bathroom has a bath with a shower above it and a heated towel rail. There is a snug adjoining the living room with its own TV, DVD player and Playstation 3 and is ideal for children. The living room has a wood burner and a 40-inch Smart TV as well as comfortable seating for six people. There is a separate dining room and a very well-appointed kitchen which has a range cooker, fridge/freezer and dishwasher. A good selection of guide books, maps, games and DVDs are provided as well as an outdoor table tennis table. Baby equipment is also available.
    Blindwell House is close to the amenities of Matlock and is a very convenient base from which to explore the attractions of the White Peak, including the towns of Bakewell and Ashbourne. Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are only a few miles away, as are popular family attractions such as Crich Tramway Museum, Peak Rail Steam Railway, The Heights of Abraham Cable Car in Matlock Bath and Gulliver’s Kingdom. Alton Towers Theme Park is also less than an hour away.
    Walkers will love exploring nearby Lathkil Dale and Robin Hood’s Stride as well as the Chatsworth Estate. Traffic free cycle trails such as The Monsal Trail, Tissington Trail, The Manifold Track and The High Peak Trail are all close by with bike hire available at Middleton by Wirksworth. Wensley is easily accessible by road from the A6 and there is also an hourly bus service from Matlock Station through Wensley and the attractive village of Winster, to the market town of Bakewell. There is a major supermarket a short drive from the cottage in Matlock where there are also a good choice of shops and restaurants. The nearest pub is less than a mile away and can be reached by following a footpath along which there are panoramic views of Matlock and the Derwent Valley. So after a wonderful day exploring, sit back in the beautiful enclosed courtyard with its comfortable garden furniture, BBQ and table tennis. Shop 1¼ miles, pub 1 mile and restaurant 2 miles.

    Lumsdale House was built by the local mill owner in 1970 in the National Heritage listed conservation area in the heart of the Lumsdale Valley. It lies on the edge of Matlock, which is full of historical interest and natural beauty. Approached by electric gates and a gravelled driveway leading to a large turning circle, this beautiful detached property enjoys views over stunning landscaped gardens, with large ponds and various seating areas. The garden has its Joseph Paxton trademark features and has been given a whole new lease of life by the owner who is a botanical garden designer. No visit to Lumsdale would be complete without a walk in the adjacent wooded gorge offering outstanding natural beauty, including a stunning waterfall (which can be faintly heard from the house) and an ancient water mill.     Lea Hall is a Grade II* listed 17th and 18th-century manor house sleeping 20 guests in 10 en-suite bedrooms. The former childhood home to the household name Florence Nightingale, this holiday property has been lovingly restored to its former glory and is set in the heart of rural Derbyshire. Located within the village of Lea, it has been sympathetically and stylishly furnished by the owner, and extras such as fine toiletries and bathrobes are also provided. The drawing room with crystal chandelier, open fire, flatscreen TV and soft furnishings is the perfect setting in which to relax. The dining room is set in the older part of the hall, which dates back to the 1600s, and has a wood-burning stove and seating for 20.
    The parish of Dethick, Lea and Holloway is steeped in history and Lea is recorded in the Domesday Book as Lede; the notorious Babington Plot of 1586 was planned at Dethick and Florence Nightingale spent much of her early life at Lea Hurst (and almost certainly lived at Lea Hall while that house was being built). The peaceful village of Lea offers visitors friendly pubs, tea rooms, restaurants and the famous John Smedley factory. Rural Derbyshire is a real treasure trove offering everything for the visitor including country houses, historic halls, medieval ruins, heritage railways, cycleways, beautiful unspoilt countryside and pretty villages. One of the closest attractions to Lea Hall is the Heights of Abraham. Built on the site of historic lead mining, the hilltop park is approached by cable car which rises up and offers some spectacular views of the Derwent Valley and surrounding Peak District. Visitors can tour the network of caverns and passageways left behind and explore the 60 acres of woodland hillside and buy souvenirs at the gift shop. Alternatively, for those who appreciate stately homes and gardens, magnificent Chatsworth House (3½ miles from Bakewell) is highly recommended, as well as Haddon Hall and Lyme Park, all of which have been film or TV locations over the years.
