Cumbria is one of Britain’s most loved and visited holiday locations, providing a unique combination of dramatic mountains and awesome lakes. It has and interesting history, originally part of the very first Jennings Brewery and dates back to the turn of the 19th Century. in 1875 the brewery relocated to Cockermouth and continues brewing real ale to this day - daily tours of the brewery are available. Buttermere, Loweswater and Crummock are nearby, a peaceful corner of the English Lakes with unspoilt scenery. Coniston and the wonderful surrounding fell ranges and lakes can be explored along with the nearby River Duddon immortalised by Wordsworth as one of the most scenic rivers in England.Embraced by this beautiful countryside, Broughton is becoming increasingly popular being well located, not far from the busier towns of Ambleside and Windermere; there are some excellent beeches nearby to the west, and to the south Ulverston is a vibrant larger town. Broughton’s  focal point is the Georgian market square with its obelisk erected in 1810 to commemorate the jubilee of King George III. Nearby old stone  slabs can still be seen where traders laid out their wares, as can the stocks in which  wrongdoers were punished. Bordering the square the Tourist Information Office is adjacent to ’Beswicks’ a charming restaurant, close to some of the cafes and excellent traditional pub where a welcoming atmosphere, fine foods and Real Ales can be enjoyed. Delicious and traditional foods are available from the small friendly local shops, the bakers and the butchers have deservedly been recommended by several of the country’s top chefs.
    Set just off the main square, Croft House and Croft House apartment are two pretty properties, thoughtfully prepared for the holiday market.  Each is delightfully presented with comfortable furnishings and personal touches, including original paintings some created by the owner.  Croft House and Croft House apartment can be booked together in which circumstances the secure interconnecting door linking the two properties would need to be specifically opened - please request when booking.
