Ulpha and the Duddon Valley

Ulpha is a quiet, peaceful village in the Dutton Valley, an area of Cumbria that sits inside the Lake District National Park. Surrounded by dramatic hills and rolling countryside, Ulpha is a perfect base and location for exploring the beautiful natural landscape of the Lake District, as well as its many villages and attractions.

The Dutton Valley can be found between Coniston and Eskdale in Cumbria and has perfect access to the central and western areas of the Lake District. A protected National Park, the Lake District is a focal point for walkers, ramblers and cyclists, as well as being a hotbed for extreme sports such as abseiling and climbing. The natural beauty of the whole area also makes it very popular with photographers and film-makers, with lots of dramatic back-drops.

The village of Ulpha is as quiet and unspoilt as anywhere you will find in the Lake District. It is well located with close proximity to nearby Broughton-in-Furness, which has a number of country pubs, restaurants and tea rooms. The traditional stone bridge in Ulpha is popular with tourists and locals alike, as the deep waters below makes it a tempting if not always sensible spot for jumping into the river.

If you’re looking to explore the wonderful Lake District from peaceful and traditional surroundings, take a look at one of the many cottages in Ulpha & the Dutton Valley, for a great self-catering break away.
