The Nenthead mines offer a glimpse into the lives of Carlisle inhabitants from years past. Carlisle Cathedral, with its stained glass window and magnificently ornate ceiling, is a stunning example of 14th century architecture and is also one of the city’s most popular landmarks.

For those who wish to explore Carlisle and enjoy a more active holiday, there is a wealth of outdoor activities for visitors of all ages. The nearby Talkin Tarn Country Park offers canoeing, fishing, rowing and other water based activities and there are plenty of fishing spots in and around the city. A walk along a section of the Hadrian’s Wall National Trail is an ideal way to appreciate the stunning views of the surrounding countryside and a great way to explore the region. Carlisle is a popular destination for cyclists and the many routes and paths here are suited to riders of varying capabilities.
