Close to the C2C cycle route, and great mountain biking down hill courses through Hamsterly Forest with bike hire for all ages less than half an hour away. A great area for shooting grouse and pheasant, with fishing on the Wear for salmon and sea trout on the doorstep. Fishing is also available at Burnhope Reservoir (license required), as well as next to the river, 1 mile. Hadrian’s Wall running from Newcastle to Hexham is within ½ hour’s drive. Beamish Open Air Museum, the O2 arena and the annual Great North Run at Newcastle are within 0.75 hour’s drive. The location for the film Beowolf is close by.
