Only 20 minutes from the many attractions of Newcastle and Gateshead - home to the Sage music venue, Baltic contemporary art gallery and excellent shopping. The renowned Beamish Open Air Museum that vividly recreates life in the North of England in the late 1800s and early 1900s is just 3 miles away and is an essential day out. The historic city of Durham, with its magnificent cathedral, which is regarded as the finest Norman building in Europe, is a mere 10 miles away. Durham is one the most beautiful cities in England, with spectacular architecture, tree-lined river bank walks and winding streets. Durham Cricket ground, which hosts many international matches is just 10 minutes away. The Durham Dales with wonderful scenery, great hill walking and cycling is only a 20 minute drive, while further afield you can discover Hadrian’s Wall, Alnwick Gardens and the castles and gloriously unspoilt coastline of Northumberland – all under an hours’ drive. This world-famous open air museum tells the story of life in North East England during the 1820s, 1900s and 1940s. With special events all year round, open air entertainment, Halloween specials and Christmas markets, this really is a great place to visit at any time of year.
    Also a great location for walkers and cyclists, Stanley is centred on a hilltop between Chester-le-Street and Consett, and lies south west of Gateshead. There are many established public footpaths and cycle routes which guests will be able to enjoy and see the countryside of County Durham from. To the north east of Stanley lies the city of Sunderland, which offers beautiful beaches, a harbour, shopping centre and the National Glass Centre as well as cinema complex and bowling alley. To the south west, and only a 20-minute drive away, is the historic City of Durham where guests will be able to enjoy all of the attractions that this popular city has to offer. The magnificent Durham Cathedral and castle are definitely worth a visit. There is also the Gala Theatre located in the centre of the city too, making this the perfect spot for guests wanting to enjoy a theatre trip as part of their break.
