    Duporth, a private estate, sits just minutes from the quaint seaside village of Charlestown, a regular location for TV and film sets and most famously, home to the tall ships filming for ’Poldark’, the popular BBC production. Charlestown has a shipwreck and smuggling museum with artefacts from the Titanic, a must for all. The village is a historic conservation area and is a model Georgian new town. It has many restaurants, cafés and local pubs serving home cooked food and local ales from the nearby St Austell brewery, which you can also visit on a tour. The nearby beach of Porthpean has another sandy beach providing the quintessential English beach holiday with rock pools and shallow sea, perfect for bathing.

    There are three golf courses nearby, with one within walking distance of the house and one a short drive away. These are at Carlyon Bay and Porthpean, and both are links courses with outstanding sea views. There are also many watersports opportunities close by at Pentewan, including sailing, kayaking, and stand up paddle boarding right on a beach. The ancient seafaring town of Fowey is across the bay and worth a visit with its narrow cobbled streets, galleries, cafés, gift shops and bars that line the estuary at the mouth of the River Fowey. You can arrange sea fishing and sightseeing trips from here, and may be lucky enough to spot dolphins.

    The Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and many more private gardens and houses are close by and provide a great day out. There are several off road cycle trails easily reached from the house, and it is possible to cycle to both the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan, a great way to explore and see this beautiful and dramatic part of Cornwall. The north coast is approximately 15 miles away, and is a totally different side to Cornwall, with the Atlantic Ocean providing waves to marvel at. The area is a mecca for surfing and has many schools and hire facilities along its rugged coastline. Padstow and Watergate Bay, home to Rick Stein’s Empire and Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen restaurants are within reach. Truro, Falmouth, St Ives and Lands End are also easily reached.
