    Ref: UKC747

Tucked away in a quiet location, yet conveniently close to the centre of Penzance, Betty’s Retreat is a quirky, split-level, traditionally furnished, first-floor apartment that’s ideal for couples, small families or friends looking to explore western Cornwall. The property is just a hop, skip and a jump from the train station, so it’s ideal for holidaymakers wanting to leave the car behind – you can arrive by train, and Penzance has fantastic public transport for getting out and exploring the region. Access couldn’t be easier to points of interest in the area, so pay a visit to Sennen Cove, Land’s End, St Just and the magical coastal walks of the Penwith Peninsula. Alternatively, if you’d rather save your feet, you can take a scenic train ride to the picturesque harbour town of St Ives, passing numerous beautiful beaches en-route. There are also a number of sub-tropical gardens and National Trust properties nearby. Sure enough, Penzance’s title of ‘gateway to West Cornwall’ is well earned.

The town itself offers a broad range of local amenities, including art galleries, a museum, marina, harbour, an array of independent shops and many a fine restaurant. Take a stroll along the promenade past the open-air Lido and café to the nearby fishing harbour of Newlyn, which is famous for its Newlyn Art School and Gallery. Further along the coast is the quaint fishing village of Mousehole, with its charming old-world ambience, winding streets, cobbled alleyways and sandy harbour beach.

Owing to the South West Coastal Paths that follows the coastline, the area is popular with walkers. To the east of Penzance lies Marazion – a birdwatcher’s paradise thanks to the nature reserve of Marazion Marshes. There’s also St Michael’s Mount to visit – a rocky outcrop that rises out of the sea crowned with a medieval castle. St Michael’s Mount can be reached on foot via a causeway at low tide, or by a small boat at high tide.

For more adventurous holidaymakers, why not take a boat trip to the stunning isles of Scilly? If you’re not so keen on travelling by boat, you can also get there by air from Land’s End Airport. Beach 1 mile. Shop and restaurant ¼ mile, pub 800 yards.

    All on the first floor.
