    Mindello was built in 1895, at the same time as Bram Stoker was writing his book Draculain Whitby. The first owners were Sea Captain Thomas Ormston and his family, his merchant ship the Shipcote was lost, presumed torpedoed off the Norwegian coast in 1915. Ulverston was the home of Stan Laurel and the birthplace of the Quaker movement at Swarthmoor Hall. All the attractions of the Lake District National Park are easily accessible with Coniston Lake and Lake Windermere being about 12 miles away. The Furness Peninsula has many sandy beaches, pebble beaches, sand dunes, bird watching, the South Lakes Animal Park, Furness Abbey and Pier Island and Castle.
