    Lansallos Barton is on the edge of Lansallos, halfway between the coastal villages of Polruan and Polperro. This small hamlet is a cluster of cottages around a charming church.
    This striking and handsome slate-hung farmhouse has been converted into two sizeable cottages (refs: NT011013 and NT011014), both with far reaching views over the fields towards the sea, with Dodman Point in the distance. Each cottage has its own enclosed garden and picnic table where the peace and tranquillity can be enjoyed. Llansallos Cove is a short walk away and the other little beaches on Lantivet Bay are nearby. To enjoy more hustle and bustle, head to Polperro, Looe or Fowey.
    The fishing town of Looe is only a short drive and provides an excellent wide sandy beach to keep children and beach lovers happy for hours. The rock pools will keep the children amused while the local fish market provides the perfect opportunity to get the catch of the day for that special evening meal or barbeque back at the house.
    Visit the ancient seafaring town of Fowey, or take a short drive and ferry trip across the beautiful river Fowey to the town, once the home to the famous author Daphne Du Maurier and now the location of a royal sailing regatta. Fowey has an abundance of narrow streets lined with interesting shops, galleries and cafés, and provides an excellent day out for all the family. For golf enthusiasts, a golf course can be found 7 miles away. Beach 600 yards. Shop 4½ miles, pub and restaurant 3 miles.

Today, the quiet seaside resort offers much to enjoy with two fascinating museums, Henry VIII’s Deal Castle, Kent’s only remaining public pier, a small theatre, an indoor swimming pool, plenty of places to wine and dine and, on a fine day, a clear view of the French coast, less than 25 miles away.     Coastguards is ideally situated in a quiet lane and a lovely place for couples, small groups of friends or families to stay, from which to explore this beautiful island.
    This area is renowned for its spectacular walks: 4 miles west over Tennyson Down gets you to the Needles; to the east, Tennyson Trail takes you to Brook, Mottistone, Shorwell and even as far as Carisbrooke, encompassing breathtaking views, great country pubs and National Trust and English Heritage properties along the way. Compton Beach is 2 miles along the coast road. Spectacular at low tide, it is great for walks, catching the surf, building sandcastles and hunting for fossils and dinosaur footprints. The picturesque town of Yarmouth, where the ferry arrives from Lymington, is a flat 3-mile walk from the cottage along the river. Freshwater Bay was a hub for many interesting characters during Victorian times: Dimbola Lodge, the home of Julia Margaret Cameron, a world renowned photography pioneer, is at the end of the lane; a little further up the road is Tennyson’s home, Farringford.
    The island can be explored by open top bus which stops at the end of Coastguards Lane. Calbourne Mill, the only working mill on the Isle of Wight, features a small war museum, rural exhibits and a café. Chessell Pottery Barns is another attraction where you can paint your pots and enjoy lovely food.
    Outdoor pursuits are all easily accessible: Tapnell Farm is within easy reach which, as well as having a lovely restaurant, gallery, interesting animals and an indoor play area, hosts the Isle of Wight Activity Centre which can organise canoeing, coasteering and grass surfing at Freshwater Bay. Wight Cycle Hire will deliver bikes to your door and Hill Farm stables are 2 miles away. There is a stunning golf course overlooking the bay. Beach 150 yards.
