Find cottages in Cheshire

The county of Cheshire is not only home to the historic city of Chester, but also has a varied landscape of rural country villages, peaceful pastoral lowlands, purple clad moorland and wooded glades.

A cottage holiday here offers you the chance to enjoy a peaceful break with lots of things to do and places to visit right on the doorstep.

The city of Chester combines wonderful historic attractions, a modern cosmopolitan ambience and a wealth of activities within easy reach. Make sure you walk the ancient city walls and in the summer months you can take to the River Dee by rowboat; a lovely way to spend a relaxing hour or two!

Venture into Cheshire’s Peak District, which extends to cover 100 square miles of uplands and plains and forms part of the Peak District National Park. Enjoy striking scenery, historical sites, country inns, heather clad moorland and wonderful views. In contrast the adjacent Cheshire plain is noted for its gentler characteristics of a lowland landscape of canals, historic buildings and landmarks.

There’s plenty to see and do in Cheshire; maybe spend the day at the world famous Chester Zoo which houses over 11,000 animals, birds and reptiles within 110 acres. This Zoo has been acknowledged for its educational and conservation work. Or if you fancy a flutter check out Chester race course, one of the smaller tracks with a lovely easy going atmosphere.

Tatton Park is a beautiful historic estate with 50 acres of landscaped gardens, rare breed farm and a deer park covering some 1,000 acres; it’s a great family day out and look out for their forthcoming events calendar. In a similar vein the National Trust Georgian house and gardens at Dunham Massey are worth a visit.

Cheshire is perfect for getting out and about with great walks and cycle routes, byways and bridleways for horseback riding, waterways and rivers for canoeing, plenty of green parkland and woodland for gentle strolls and historic buildings.

Thanks to its central location, bordering Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Shropshire and Wales, choosing a holiday cottage in Cheshire provides for the perfect base for those who want to get out and explore more of the UK.

This detached, former barn, which is situated in the grounds of the owner’s farmhouse, has been transformed into a stylish and contemporary holiday home. Its rural location offers unspoilt views of the surrounding countryside, which can be enjoyed from its private garden, and there is access to lots of country walks and public footpaths. The area is also popular with cyclists, and there is a good cycle shop in the lively village of Audlem, which also has a deli, wine shop, butchers, post office and a good selection of pubs and takeaways. The Shropshire Union Canal runs through the village, and its towpaths provide pleasant walks, whilst its church is one of the oldest in Cheshire. The village hosts various events throughout the year. A wider selection of amenities can be found in the historic market town of Nantwich, 6 miles, or Crewe, 12 miles, which as a major interchange, offers good rail links to most of the country, including Manchester, Stoke-on-Trent, Wales, London and Glasgow. Liverpool and Manchester are both less than an hour by train, or you can drive there in around 80 minutes.
The historic city of Chester, with attractions including the races, river cruises and museum, is a 45-minute drive, as is Chester Zoo and Shrewsbury. Other places of interest within easy driving distance include Whitchurch and Market Drayton, both 9 miles, Beeston Castle and Cholmondeley Castle and Gardens, both 16 miles, and Stoke-on-Trent’s potteries, 20 miles. National Trust properties within easy reach are Little Moreton Hall, 15 miles, Biddulph Grange, 19 miles, Erdigg, 20 miles, and Chirk Castle, 24 miles. North Wales is also very accessible from here. Closer to the property is the OverWater marina, which has a café and operates boat trips to Audlem during the summer, is just half a mile away, or why not visit the Hack Green Secret Bunker, 31/2 miles. Activities available locally, apart from walking and cycling, include golf, fishing, horse riding and sailing. With so much to see and do right on the doorstep, Cherry Tree Barn provides the perfect getaway for families or couples looking to explore this wonderful region. Shop, pub and restaurant 2 miles.
