Cheshire

The county of Cheshire is not only home to the historic city of Chester, but also has a varied landscape of rural country villages, peaceful pastoral lowlands, purple clad moorland and wooded glades.

A cottage holiday here offers you the chance to enjoy a peaceful break with lots of things to do and places to visit right on the doorstep.

The city of Chester combines wonderful historic attractions, a modern cosmopolitan ambience and a wealth of activities within easy reach. Make sure you walk the ancient city walls and in the summer months you can take to the River Dee by rowboat; a lovely way to spend a relaxing hour or two!

Venture into Cheshire’s Peak District, which extends to cover 100 square miles of uplands and plains and forms part of the Peak District National Park. Enjoy striking scenery, historical sites, country inns, heather clad moorland and wonderful views. In contrast the adjacent Cheshire plain is noted for its gentler characteristics of a lowland landscape of canals, historic buildings and landmarks.

There’s plenty to see and do in Cheshire; maybe spend the day at the world famous Chester Zoo which houses over 11,000 animals, birds and reptiles within 110 acres. This Zoo has been acknowledged for its educational and conservation work. Or if you fancy a flutter check out Chester race course, one of the smaller tracks with a lovely easy going atmosphere.

Tatton Park is a beautiful historic estate with 50 acres of landscaped gardens, rare breed farm and a deer park covering some 1,000 acres; it’s a great family day out and look out for their forthcoming events calendar. In a similar vein the National Trust Georgian house and gardens at Dunham Massey are worth a visit.

Cheshire is perfect for getting out and about with great walks and cycle routes, byways and bridleways for horseback riding, waterways and rivers for canoeing, plenty of green parkland and woodland for gentle strolls and historic buildings.

Thanks to its central location, bordering Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Shropshire and Wales, choosing a holiday cottage in Cheshire provides for the perfect base for those who want to get out and explore more of the UK.

    Ref: W44370

Part of the original farmhouse which dates back to the 17th century, Farmhouse Wing has been renovated to offer all contemporary comforts, as well as retaining much of its period charm and character. The cosy living room, which has retained its original oak beams, has a charming inglenook fireplace with a woodburner. The farmhouse-style dining room/kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher and fridge/freezer. Upstairs there are two good-sized bedrooms, one with a king sized four poster bed and the other with a French chateau bed, making this cottage ideal for those who enjoy a little romance!

Situated on a working farm in the heart of rural Cheshire and surrounded by rolling countryside, these family run cottages (W44368, W44369, W44370, W44371 and W44372) offer comfortable and well-appointed, self-catering accommodation, perfect for couples and families looking for a relaxing escape but with the added bonus of there being plenty to see and do within easy reach. For those who want to embrace their surroundings and get a real feel for life on a working farm, the family offers various farm experiences including lambing (seasonal), collecting eggs, a tour of the farm on a gator with the farmer, or children can enjoy riding round the farmyard on toy tractors.

Ideal for families, there is a children’s play area and for babies, cots and high chairs are available. For convenience, there are on-site laundry facilities with a washing machine and tumble dryer, and all of the cottages have free wi-fi. Several of the cottages also welcome pets. The farm is set in 200 acres and there are several ponds around the grounds, so children must be supervised. Guests can try their hand at carp fishing, which is also available on-site, a licence is not required but guests must bring their own fishing equipment.

There are lots of footpaths and bridleways around the farm, making this an ideal base for walkers and equestrians. Stabling is available on the farm which can be booked separately with the owners.

Millmoor Farm is located near the village of No Man’s Heath, which lies between Whitchurch in Shropshire, 6 miles away, and Malpas in Cheshire, 2½ miles away, so it is well-placed for exploring both these beautiful counties. The historic city of Chester with its famous races and excellent selection of bars, shops and restaurants is just 16 miles away and should be on everyones ‘must visit’ list. Other places worth visiting within easy driving distance include Chester Zoo, 17 miles, Blue Planet Aquarium, 20 miles and Beeston Castle, 10 miles. Cholmondeley Castle Gardens is 5 miles and Delamere Forest with its ‘Go Ape’ treetop adventure park is 20 miles away. North Wales is also very accessible from here and the popular beach resorts of Rhyl, Prestatyn and Talacre are all within an hour’s drive.
