Southern England

Southern England includes eight very unique counties all with great reasons to visit. The variety of things to do and see is enormous and the whole area is perfect for self catering holidays.

Let’s start with Hampshire, unspoilt beaches, quaint villages, ancient forests, imposing castles and gorgeous countryside. One of the most popular attractions is the New Forest National Park with a lovely selection of holiday cottages. There’s walking, cycling, horse riding and water sports, plus a rich military and maritime history as well as historic towns.

Just across the Solent is the Isle of Wight where the traditional British seaside holiday is very much alive. Hunt for fossils under chalk cliffs, catch crabs in rock pools, plus a rich heritage to discover. As Queen Victoria said, “It’s impossible to imagine a prettier spot”, when commenting on her rural retreat on the island, Osborne House, which is now open to the Public.

Wiltshire is full of attractions and historical sites; possibly the most famous is Stonehenge attracting visitors from all over the world. There’s rolling countryside, busy market towns, amazing botanical gardens, stately homes and gardens. For a great view climb the tallest Cathedral spire in Britain at Salisbury.

Sussex is well known for its gorgeous scenery white cliffs, pebbly beaches and includes the South Downs National Park. The soft undulating chalk hills, deep dry valleys are perfect for walking, cycling and horse-riding. There’s a great choice of seaside resorts, scenic towns, villages and historic sites to choose from.

Because of its lush green rolling hills and picturesque countryside Kent is known as ‘the garden of England’ and won’t disappoint! Canterbury and Rochester have a mix of culture, heritage and retail therapy to keep everyone happy. On London's doorstep is Surrey one of the most beautiful counties in the UK with an impressive mix of nature, history and wealth. The towns have preserved their charm and the countryside has been protected with wildlife reserves and heritage sites connected by a network of footpaths and cycle trails.

Berkshire has many royal connections and classic English towns, villages and countryside to explore. Windsor is a must with its magnificent castle and Eton College. The River Thames winds its way through the north of the county passing through manicured colourful gardens.

Finally Greater London, with the city of London at its centre covering an area of 600 square miles. Tourists who flock from all the over the world will never be short of anything to do, history, culture, famous landmarks, modern architecture plus world class shopping and dining.
