This property enjoys extensive countryside and mountain views, making an ideal retreat for groups who wish to explore mid and west Wales.

Ysgubor is a characterful, detached barn conversion with stunning countryside views in a peaceful location. The market town of Tregaron is 1¼ miles away along a quiet country lane with pubs, cafés and shops. Ysgubor (meaning ‘Barn’ in Welsh) sits in the grounds of the owner’s country house and has its own private entrance, garden and parking. The 3-acre field below Ysgubor is also available (subject to no animals grazing) for playing out, exercising your dog or a quiet ramble. This bright and airy barn boasts large picture windows, on both the ground floor and from the galleried living area on the first floor, which make the most of the glorious countryside surrounding the property and ideal for a totally relaxing holiday. Two of the three bedrooms (one en-suite) and the family bathroom are also on the ground floor making the house perfect for guests preferring step-free accommodation. The well equipped kitchen/dining room is open plan with a large oak dining table and French doors to the garden. With two comfortable living areas, there is ample space for all the family.

There is an abundance of beautiful, countryside walks and rambles straight from the property. In Tregaron, 1¼ miles away, along a quiet country lane or via a handy footpath, there are shops, cafes, takeaways and an award-winning pub. There is also the Red Kite Visitor Centre and The Welsh Gold Centre which is renowned for handmade, Celtic-inspired jewellery, a tea room and art exhibition. Tregaron is a ‘Walkers are Welcome’ town and you are more than welcome to join the local walking group. The Abergwesyn Mountain road through the Cambrian Mountains, a scenic drive like no other, starts at the bottom of the lane. This will take you to Llyn Brianne dam, RSPB Gwenffrwd Dinas or The Elan Valley through truly stunning countryside and past Soar y Mynydd – Wales’ most remote chapel.

Cors Caron, an internationally recognised nature reserve, is just over 3 miles away and accessible by a network of boardwalks that enables visitors to get right into the heart of varied habitats, with over 170 species of birds having been recorded. The Ystwyth Trail for walkers and cyclists starts here too, an off-road Sustrans route to Aberystwyth which follows some parts of the old Great Western Railway line. Within easy reach are the Dolaucothi Gold Mines, Strata Florida Abbey, Devil’s Bridge Falls and the Vale of Rheidol Steam Railway. An hour’s drive will bring you to either Snowdonia, the Brecon Beacons or Pembrokeshire National Parks.

Fishing is available locally (rod licence required, day ticket £13, under 12s free). For the golf enthusiast, Cilgwyn Golf Club is 9 miles away. The seaside resort and university town of Aberystwyth, with its pier, promenade, National Library of Wales, University Arts Centre and Cliff Railway, is 18 miles to the north-west.Visit Bwlch Nant yr Arian Forest Centre, 14 miles to the north, where there is a lovely café and red kites are fed each day. Walk or cycle the many trails from the centre or try out the new mountain bike skills route. The picture postcard Cardigan Bay harbour towns of New Quay and Aberaeron, on the Ceredigion Heritage Coast, are within easy reach along quiet country roads. Enjoy days out walking the coastal paths, uncrowded golden beaches or bring your binoculars to watch the local dolphins and seals – take a boat trip if you want to get close up! Fantastic cottage, warm clean and cosy with amazing views of the Cambrian foothills. Everything was spotlessly clean, beds were comfy and there was plenty of hot water. Nice little welcome hamper, including treats for the dogs. There were towels, extra water bowls, collars and tags as well. We also had use of the field to exercise the dogs in, which they loved. It was great to stay at a property that thought about the dogs needs as well as the humans.

Idyllic cottage in the heart of Ceredigon. The description on the web site does not do this accommodation or location justice... We we're in awe as we arrived at how beautiful both Ysgubor and it's location were and immediately provided with an extremely warm welcome from Lee. We had the most amazing and memorable breaks secluded in the Welsh Countryside and even lucky enough to encounter Snow! We are so greatful to John and Lee for making our break wonderful, with nothing being too much trouble. We have immediately booked for Feb 2018 and can't wait to return!

outstanding holiday barn conversion this has been a wonderful place to stay, quite peaceful, and it snowed - 6 inches this was a winter wonderland, stunning winter scenes, with the large windows all around the cottage, for views across the mountains. Peace and quite is just what we needed.

The cottage was in a beautiful location and we had an acceptable weeks holiday but unfortunately we were disappointed with the cottage as we did not find it as dog friendly as we had hoped. The cottage was advertised with an enclosed garden but as soon as we arrived we were advised that our pets were only allowed in limited rooms on the ground floor and because of the nature of the fence the dogs would have to go outside on a lead if sheep were in the adjacent field. We would not have chosen this cottage if this had been made clear on the description. The beds were very comfortable but unfortunately there was no window in our master bedroom (only french doors) and unless we wanted to sleep with the door open we were unable to enjoy any ventilation at night. The seating in the lounge was not particularly comfortable and there was only room for 4 of us, so our whole family could not sit together in the lounge. The owners of the cottage were very pleasant and helpful and we cannot fault their welcome. We believe they have only owned the property since January, so the description on the website was presumably given by the previous owners. A little more clarity in the advertisement would have made sure that our expectations were more realistic. When we go on holiday with our pets we always take large throws to put down and protect the accommodation but we like to relax in their company. Complying with the restrictions placed on our animals made for a less relaxing time.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner. Thank you very much for taking the time to review Ysgubor. Thank you for your kind comments and that you found the location so lovely and the beds comfy. Of course, we are very concerned that you didn't feel we were dog friendly. The only restriction, along with all holiday cottages and part of your terms and conditions, is that we ask you not to allow dogs into the ground floor bedrooms. We are, of course, very happy for dogs to play freely in the enclosed garden and we offered you the use of our three acre field too. Sheep are sometimes grazed in this field and we do ask guests to be mindful at these times as some dogs might be tempted to jump the fence. Whilst you were here there weren't any sheep in the field so your dogs had free access to the garden and field. As you say, we are new owners and are learning all the time. I will re- word the information folder to ensure future guests gain the full benefit of the garden with their pets and I'm sorry if you misunderstood the information given. There is a locking latch on the en- suite bedrooms, French doors which means it can be locked in an open position for ventillation; I'll add this to the guest brochure information so it isn't missed by future guests. We want all of our guests to be comfortable and have a lovely relaxing holiday and are always looking to upgrade furniture/ equipment as it's needed so we'll certainly take a look at the sofa you mentioned; thank you for bringing this to our attention. Thank you again for your review, all the best.
