2nd year running at wychwood. Great space plus the private swimming pool and hot tub are a fantastic addition. However a little disappointed that most of the faults we pointed out last year were not rectified for this year, and cleaning could be more thorough. However, it was clear that the owners have spent money upgrading the fire safety (new alarm and fire doors) which is only a good thing. You get the sun on the front of the house in the late afternoon and evening and the terrace allows enjoyment of a drink whilst watching the sunset, though in my opinion, the terrace would significantly benefit from expansion (decked area for example) to allow more seating and/or dining space to accommodate the number of people that the house actually sleeps.

Great property in a good location - only criticism would be the lack of ensuites but we managed. Loved the pool and the restuarant nearby

We have stayed at Wychwood 3 times now and enjoyed our stay, but the cottage needs a bit of TLC the Towels and Saucepans etc. could do with replacing. Also there are a few maintenance items which have still not been attended to that we reported last year which we found a bit disappointing.

House was really comfortable and roomy Facilities were excellent Only reason it didn't get 10 out 10 was the tumble dryer was out of action for the whole period so problem drying towels and swimming costumes Still loved it and would not hesitate returning

Wychwood is in a fantastic location and benefits from a nice small indoor pool and hot tub. The interior space is however a very overdeveloped with rooms in the basement and loft. Access to the loft room is very difficult and presents some serious risks to those needing to get up in the night. The basement also feels claustrophobic with low ceilings, high level narrow windows and only one means of escape in the event of an emergency.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thanks for your comments we are sorry that Wychwood didn't meet with your expectations. Wychwood is a Canadian systole house with 3 of the bedrooms located in the lower floor with high level windows as can be clearly seen from the website pictures This design allows the bedrooms to stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer, they have not been added in the basement as you suggest but this was the way the house was originally designed and built. Whilst the bedroom ceilings are lower than a normal house, there is still full headroom and the bedrooms are of sufficient size for them not to feel claustrophobic. The website also notes, “Steep, open tread stairs to the first floor bedroom with low sloping ceiling”. We would not suggest young children or elderly sleep in this bedroom but choose one of the other four bedrooms. With regards to fire escapes, the property has been inspected by an Independent Fire Risk Assessor and all recommendations have been carried out which include fire doors to protect all escape roots and a separate mains powered fire alarm and detection system with detector/sounders in every room in the house (except bathrooms). Wychwood is equipped with an indoor pool, jacuzzi, pool table, PS3 including games, DVD with films and numerous books to keep people entertained if they are not enjoying the great outdoors West Wight has to offer.

Whychwood was a very comfortable and convenient bungalow and we enjoyed staying there. It is roomy, clean and has good facilities. We do have a couple of criticisms though: 1. The boiler was a little unreliable in that we had to keep resetting it by pressing the red button otherwise the hot water and heating would go cold. 2. The sensor that activates the light for the front door and garden is wrongly positioned as the light wouldn't come on unless someone stood at the driveway end of the garden path. This meant that when we came out of the porch at night the steps immediately outside the porch had to be negotiated in darkness which could cause someone to fall if they missed a step. 3. The smell of clorine in the pool room was at times overpowering. Apart from this we enjoyed our stay at Whychwood.
