Description

Ideal for exploring the local area, this ground floor apartment is near to Ambleside, Coniston and Hawkshead.

Only a 6 mile drive from Lake Windermere, Hazelwood Court offers breathtaking country and coastal views from 5 spacious 2/3 bedroomed holiday apartments, carefully prepared and maintained by the on-site resident owners, on ground, first and second floor levels. This imposing late Victorian country house occupies an enviable, elevated 4 acres of conservation area, natural woodland, and terraced landscaped gardens, with seated outdoor view terrace and ample, level off road parking for over 20 cars.
All the apartment living rooms and most of the bedrooms offer amazing unspoilt views over the adjacent farmland, golf course and tidal estuary, to the rolling wooded uplands across Morecambe Bay, and to the distant Pennine Hills beyond. Visitors are regularly impressed by the size and quality of the building structure, the spacious apartments living space is enhanced by high corniced ceilings and large windows, with quality furnishings and decor, with an antique and period style which complements the contemporary kitchens and bathrooms with their creature comforts.
Resident proprietors are normally available to meet, greet and show guests around their accommodation, where a fruit bowl, flowers and a welcoming tea tray are provided. Their unobtrusive on-site presence is regularly appreciated if and when a prompt solution or local knowledge are required. Access to the property is a 15-minute drive from the M6, Junction 36, with delightful daily excursions into the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks made easy. Good train and bus service links are also available.
Within walking distance is the coastal town of Grange-over-Sands, a refreshingly friendly community of traditional shops, cafes, gardens, and park with regularly used bandstand and a traffic-free mile long curved promenade, which has retained its tasteful, low-key character since the mid Victorian railway arrival changed a sleepy fishing village into a genteel holiday resort. Not renowned for its nightlife and amusement arcades, Grange-over-Sands is still appreciated by those looking for quiet quality, with nearby Cartmel, the birthplace of sticky toffee puddings, providing popular summer time National Hunt race meetings, several gastro pubs and the nationally acclaimed L’Enclume restaurant amongst the historical cottages clustering around its magnificent 12th-century priory church.
Further afield, you will find a variety of things to see and do for people of all ages, interests and inclinations. The familiar Lake District villages of Coniston, Hawkshead, Grasmere, Ambleside, Windermere and Bowness are all easily reached by car. Nearby stately homes and gardens at Sizergh, Levens, Holker and Blackwell are well worth visiting, with many more a little further away. The whole area offers the unique artist and cultural heritage of Wordsworth, Coleridge, Southey, Ruskin, Ransome, Romney, Potter, Wainwright and so many others who chose to make their home in this lakes and mountain concentration of outstanding natural beauty. Visit their homes as well as the countless museums, galleries, studios, craft centres, aquaria, agricultural shows, village sports and festivals which compete for your interest and attention. The more active can find countless opportunities for such activities as walking, climbing, cycling, golfing, horse riding, fishing, water sports, with nature reserves, wildlife centres, leisurely lake cruising and a superb variety of food and drink establishments, providing relaxing alternatives for the less energetic visitor throughout the area. Whatever preferences your holiday party may reveal during their stay here, it is difficult to imagine anyone being disappointed with the huge range of choices available. It was a lovely holiday with my wife and two sons. Maybe try to upgrade the TV to flat screen. Apparent from that it's a lovely place and we look forward to coming back again

We chose a ground floor apartment as one of our party has trouble walking but the access is very steep for both vehicles and people and this proved quite a challenge for the 90 year old! Outstanding views from the front windows. The recycling regime is very tedious. Apartment well kitted out and clean with lots of information, games and books available. Decorations and accessories, though adequate could do with a little updating.

    Response from: Administrator

Response on behalf of the Owner; We are sorry and rather surprised to learn that you found access to your apartment difficult. Yes we do have a wide sloping tarmac covered carriageway drive from the road leading to a generous off-road parking and turning area for over twenty vehicles close to the northerly wing of our large property. I do, however, disagree that the degree of slope could prove in any way problematic for a conventionally powered modern motor vehicle. As for your elderly party member, the solution was simply to drive your vehicle up the rear of the property to the main entrance door, where a single step in to the foyer then allows immediate and level access to the apartment you occupied, before reversing back along the wide roadway to the car park. In the 35 years of our self-catering operation here, that manoeuvre has been successfully executed by countless visitors to our property, following our normal visitor arrival personal welcome guidance information. We are glad you found some benefits of the four-star grading awarded to that apartment, but sorry to learn that you found separating your waste into the six separate labelled receptacles a few yards from your apartment door tedious. Recycling separation procedures are a normal part of waste disposal arrangements throughout the U.K., even if they do differ in their detail in different parts of the country.
