Welcome Cottages

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

Peacefully set in 2-acre grounds, this spacious property offers good local walking and easy access to London by train.

Standing in over two acres of paddocks and woodland, this comfortable cottage offers tranquil surroundings in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Now completely separate from the farm it was originally built to support, it has been extensively modernised whilst retaining many interesting period features. It lies within easy reach of Newbury and Oxford, while from the local station at Goring (3 miles), it is only an hour into London. There is plenty of good holiday walking on the Ridgeway and downs, and the River Thames at Streatly is only ten minutes away.

Beamed living room with wood-burning stove. Dining room. Modern fitted kitchen with tiled floor and French windows to patio. Cloakroom with toilet. First floor: Double bedroom. Two twin bedrooms, one with Z-bed (for alternative sleeping only). Bathroom with toilet. Shower room with toilet.

Dining room is very ill lit hard to see print in it. Windows are very sub-standard double glazing - let in wind. Steps up to bedrooms hard to manage since doors are on strong spring and close on you. Shower has very little power so hard to wash in and bath too deep to get into.

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your review. This is the first time anyone has commented on the lighting in the dining room as we have three double windows which let sufficient light in, we also have 2 wall lights and a standard lamp. We have had to follow fire regulations for the doors and the bathroom is fitted with a standard roll top bath.

Just a great place to stay. Such a great location with owls hooting at night and your own grounds to roam with a view. Cottage is spacious and lovely and brilliantly kitted out. Really can recharge the batteries here and big enough for a nice family do as well.

WiFi did not work at all during my weeks stay which was very frustrating so if I had to work it would have been a greater problem. Kitchen equipment was obviously either not reported by previous guests or checked as the can opener was left in the draw broken. I left a note to this effect but it did prove a problem. Refuse- a BIG problem. I realise there are two weekly collections - not every week as it is used to be but when there is a changeover and the previous occupants leave the bins full to bursting, it means I had nowhere to put ANY rubbish other than deal with it by driving somewhere. This is not ideal on a daily basis whilst on holiday and 6 people generate a lot of refuse, Friday is collection day usually but it had not been emptied. Suggest housekeeper needs to make sure bins are empty if there is a weekly Let.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your feedback. I stayed in the property the week following your stay along with my sister and there was no problem with the Wi-Fi, it just needed resetting on the router. It is stated within the Terms and Conditions that Wi-Fi cannot be guaranteed due to the service provider’s unpredictability. Upon investigation, we can confirm that the can opener is fully functional. The bins are generally adequate for 2 weeks and there has never an issue all summer, we used the bins after your stay and there was enough space but we do provide black bin liners for any excess waste.
