Further east is the Victorian seaside town of Weymouth, with Blue Flag beach, sea fishing, windsurfing, Sealife Centre and two RSPB nature reserves. Monkey World and the Tank Museum near Wool are great places for a family day out. Dorchester, the county town also known as Thomas Hardy’s ‘Casterbridge’ is 30 minutes’ drive and has a lively weekly market and beautiful Maiden Castle. To the west is the market town of Bridport which was Thomas Hardy’s ‘Port Bredy’ and has the twice weekly market as featured in the popular TV programme River Cottage. The picturesque harbours of West Bay are a great place for fishing. Lyme Regis is an attractive seaside resort which enjoys a dramatic setting with high cliffs, landslips and handsome harbour, known as The Cobb. The cottage provided everything we could have wished for our self catering family Christmas get together. Our dogs were provided for with an enclosed garden space. The concern regarding no WiFi not mentioned in the publicity proved unfounded as signals were obtainable, although somewhat weak. Indeed the signals were weak throughout the village. The owner was very welcoming ensuring that our needs were satisfied including providing plenty of wood for the wood burner in the lounge although the Central Heating was very efficient. Car parking was very convenient. All in all a stay to remember with great pleasure and the nearby Crown Inn added to this.

This is a very well equipped cottage with ample space for a larger party and with a good range of facilities provided. The owner lives on site and is very helpful. There is a pub very close by which allows dogs and has a good selection of food on the menu and there are other pubs within a 2 mile radius. No real shops available although the local pub does double up as a community store. The area is beautiful with lots of beaches and seaside towns within easy reach. A bit of a nightmare to get to if you live in the North of the UK due to all the major roadworks on the M6 and M5 but well worth it once you get there. I would definitely recommend this cottage to family and friends and would be happy to revisit in the future.

I have to say this was the best cottage holiday we have ever had. This review is going to sound like we are part of the owners family, but I can't praise the cottage or Alan enough. So often you see pictures online and are disappointed when you get there. This was not the case when we arrived. The cottage was fantastic, and well equiped and Alan met us on arrival and was incredibly accomodating when we turned up with a 7 meter boat. He helped get it off the back of the car and into a secure overnight parking space. The cottage is beautiful, a good combination of cottage feel and modern decor. Alan couldn't do enough to help and nothing was ever a problem. Its a lovely location not far from Bridport and about 30 mins from Weymouth. The village pub is a 5 minute walk away. You must stay here! ...our little boy wanted to add he liked playing in the garden

We were very pleased although we did find a pair of men's pants behind one of the single beds.

We were a group of mixed ages from mid 20's to mid 80's and we all thoroughly enjoyed our holiday at Woodman's Cottage. The cottage was beautifully clean, very well equipped and was comfortable with period charm and a lovely inglenook fireplace. The owner and his family were friendly, welcoming and helpful. A delightful village in a peaceful spot, we enjoyed drinks and meals at the Crown Pub only a short walk from the cottage.

Great find, we looked for a cottage that would fit three couple for a birthday weekend. The house was full of character, spacious, well equipped, clean and a pleasure to stay at. We had great fun. The location near a pub was ideal, and a great area for walking. The owner, Alan was very helpful. The location in on a farm in a very rural location was ideal. We would definitely return.
