Further east is the Victorian seaside town of Weymouth, with Blue Flag beach, sea fishing, windsurfing, Sealife Centre and two RSPB nature reserves. Monkey World and the Tank Museum near Wool are great places for a family day out. Dorchester, the county town also known as Thomas Hardy’s ‘Casterbridge’ is 30 minutes’ drive and has a lively weekly market and beautiful Maiden Castle. To the west is the market town of Bridport which was Thomas Hardy’s ‘Port Bredy’ and has the twice weekly market as featured in the popular TV programme River Cottage. The picturesque harbours of West Bay are a great place for fishing. Lyme Regis is an attractive seaside resort which enjoys a dramatic setting with high cliffs, landslips and handsome harbour, known as The Cobb. Both Lyme Regis and Charmouth are renowned for their prehistoric fossils which are displayed in the local museum and on sale in the fossil shops. Local pub serving good food 250 yards.

Lovely cottage. Double duvets on the single beds not comfortable. Wifi essential to be installed especially as mobile coverage so patchy. We had an emergency with our dog and communication with vet very difficult. We have stayed at this lovely cottage twice but will go to a different area next year. We will not book another cottage without wifi.

Great welcome from owner on arrival with biscuits and tea most welcome after a long drive. The cottage was perfect for three generations of our family. The beds were very comfortable and The kitchen was well equipped too. In a quiet village but great location for the beach and easy to reach many local attractions. Can't wait to return.

My family and I (a party of 7 adults and two dogs) spent a wonderful week at Woodmans Cottage in early August. The accommodation was very spacious and all the furniture and equipment was really good quality which is quite unusual for a holiday let - especially one that takes dogs. The village and surrounding area is beautiful and, even though the weather was a bit hit and miss while we were there, we had a great time. Alan (the owner) couldn't have been more friendly and obliging and was very patient and accommodating - even when the 'youngsters' (all in their 20's!) kept kicking the football into his garden! We would recommend a stay at Woodman's Cottage to any family who want good quality accommodation, beautiful scenery, lovely walks and a landlord who just wants you to have a great time on your holiday.

I would give the cottage a much higher comfort rating if the beds were more comfortable. The mattresses were incredibly hard and we all slept badly. suggest they get mattress toppers. and also suggest they make a wifi code available
